I've seen quite a few posts about various methods to fix the old style hub clamps - including the fabrication of shims, grinding the clamps to allow more "travel" and replacing the hubs themselves with more up-to-date and effective ones.

I've just found the following replacement hubs which look easy to fit and seem a reasonable price for a pair. I just wondered if anyone had tried these or have any comments as to how effective they might be?

They will help for a while, but this style makes it rock solid and lasts for ever, even on a worn axle shaft. I just put a set on my B7100HST.

Thanks for that Whitetiger!

After a bit more "wrenching" today I think I've managed to make the original clamp system work OK.
What I found was that the securing bolt wasn't in as far it should be onto the clamps. Problem was that the threads of the securing bolt were clogged with paint and also the springs on the bolt were fully compressed and prevented the bolt going in as far as it should. Having cleaned the threads and left out the springs completely, the bolt went in just a bit further (with a hefty amount of torque!) and the hub is now sitting much more snugly onto the shaft.

Having the hubs fairly wobbly on the shaft for several years now, I expected the shaft to be somewhat damaged/worn but when I took the wheels off it was in surprisingly good condition.

Not sure if this will prove to be a long term solution but I'm hopeful!
