I am putting a new pilot bushing and drive shaft in my tractor. There is a seal that installs after the dry bushing is in place. Since it is sealed, it seems like I should put some grease in there. Has anyone tried grease ? Thanks, Dan
Handy, that is absolutely not true! I value all of your input and besides sometimes it can be slightly misleading what exactly the intentions are of everybody making a thread. You are right need to keep my mouth shut sometimes.
Hi Dusty, If I have it right I think you may be referring to oil impregnated sintered bronze called "Oilite" bushing and are self lubricating .They are used a lot when there is not much space to fit a ball or roller Bearring or plces hidden away so not easy to lube regularly. And the pilot bushing is made of some stuff that has lubricant in it.. With all this talk of plastic liner I am begining to think we are not refering to what I thought we were.If we are then then the plastic liner may be used as a "keep" to stop the impregnated oil dripping out and has to be removed before sliding in the the shaftIts to keep the dust out. You put a dab of grease on the end of shaft so that it slides past the seal and into the bushing easily. Plastic liner ? No clue. Dusty
