I have a new (to me) B-36 tiller hooked up to my BX-2350 that I used to till a new garden area in hard soil. It worked well enough, it just took a long, long time. Most of the issue is that there's a pretty wide spacing between the tines and it appears to be setup more as a cultivator than a tiller. There's so much spacing that you have to inch backward and forward and change angles to get all the dirt, or it just digs parallel ruts a couple inches wide. I'm wondering if this is typical of the B36. The tines really don't look like the ones in the online parts diagrams with the typical L shaped scoop. I'm pretty sure it isn't from wear, because there's still a fair bit of orange paint on the under side of the tiller, including the bolt heads and the nuts holding them together. In fact, I can't see how I'd use the tines that are pictured on the parts diagram (70030-00603 and 70030-00604) since the current ones are welded onto the left and right shaft sections. I have have thought about getting some after market bolt-on tines, though I'll have to drill holes through the existing ones to mount them.

Cutting off the current tines and trying to attach new ones is beyond my toolset. The square metal plate between them seems to spin freely when the bolts are removed, which is odd. The tines are securely welded to the hollow shaft. Any thoughts?

I had a b36 tiller. It did a great job. Wish I had never sold it. I think your tines are worn down.
I sold it a long time ago so I don't really remember what the tines looked like. What I do remember is it worked great.

The odd thing is, if they really are worn down to the point where there are no horizontal parts, I'd expect the paint to also be worn off the nuts holding the square plates to the tines, but there's still plenty of old paint in there.. Also, there doesn't appear to be any practical way to replace them since they are welded in place. That's the real puzzle.. Unless somebody (previous to me) replacet them with these tines that are in there now and welded them and painted to turn it into a cultivator?
