Should have looked a little closer when I bought my Kubota about a year ago. Why are the brake pedals located on the same side a the accelerator pedal? You can't lock a wheel to make a sharp turn! I farmed as a kid, all wheel brakes were on the left...Other than locking on a hill there of no use. Am I missing something?

My guess is the brake pedals on the right are a carryover from previous tractors with gear rather than hydrostatic transmissions, and which had a clutch pedal on the left.

The speed control pedal, sometimes called the "accelerator pedal" is not linked to the engine. Rather it controls the hydrostatic transmission and effectively changes the reduction ratio of the transmission.

In theory if the tractor has "cruise control" the speed control pedal can be locked in position while a brake pedal is pressed to assist in turning.

Agreed, it is a carry over and many of the new models have eliminated the clutch and put the brakes on the left.

I too grew up farming using the split turning brakes, but never use them on any of our CUTs, if needed I can use the cruise control with brakes as mentioned.

Silver Fox, you mention " I farmed as a kid, all wheel brakes were on the left..."

I've got a '65 730 Case. It has both brakes on the right. Throttle is also on the right. Also has throttle lever on column.

I have an '80 Deutz 6206. It is set up the same as the Case.

Kubota '82ish L305. It is set up the same as above.

On all the above tractors you can lock the brakes together, or leave them to function individually.

OK, I agree, I had JD "B" 720s and Oliver 55 I think and of course Ford LN 9. Glad they changed on the new ones along with high back seat, improved the 3 pt hitch, increased the lift, and that was only a quick scan, sure there is more. now I want a 2601!!!

Yep, lots of improvements that were long overdue. Several years ago, I decided I needed a tractor a bit bigger than my BX2200, so I "sold" it to a relative and went to buy a B26/2920. After a lot of thought and consideration of the shortcomings of the B Series, I just bought a new BX2660 as I had larger tractors to do work the BX couldn't handle. If the B2601 was made back then, I'd have one in my barn right now.

I've farmed, and repaired farm eq. all my life, and have yet to see a tractor, with brake pedals on the left. Got a list of tractors, with brake pedals on left, so I can see what I missed? :D:D

I have a B2620, and yes it is a pain to use the steering brakes. But I like having the clutch to engage the PTO.

You learn to adapt after a while.

Diydave, glad to see your post. I was beginning to think in this part of the country maybe all tractors were special order, if you had brakes on right!

I don't want brakes on the left. I'd have to learn all over.
