I recently checked my transmission and found it to be foamy. What causes this? I dicovered a small crack in one of the front hoses which was leaking fluid. Could this be the issue?

Also when i ck my trans fluid should i do it when the machine is running or shut off?

Can't tell you for sure because I don't have a lot of first hand experience but in cars foamy automatic transmission fluid is a sign it's well beyond worn out. There is an antifoaming agent in there and when the additive package is worn out you'll get foam.

As for the leak it's a possible cause depending on the line. Definitely if it's the suction line to the hydraulic pump. I'd also have a look around the pump for leaks. Clean the filter screen and change the fluid and see where that gets you. Someone with more experience servicing hydrostatic drives will probably chime in.

Is the leaking line a suction line? If it is that will be the cause. If not is the oil milky looking. Water in the oil will make it foam too.

I will check the check the suction line, im new to the kubota league. I have to look and see which are considered suction line. Also when checking the fluind does the tractor need to be running or off?

The suction lines will be the larger diameter ones and will be connected in spots with short sections of rubber hose.
