Those are goldfish…probably says so on the box. 😆
And what was Bubba dreaming about with six goldish crackers right in front of him. He could sniff them out in the next room- but in front of his nose while sleeping? I'm mean, let's check it out. I do this stuff but the dogs continuously amaze me. The dogs are way, way smarter than we give them credit.

As I recall he woke up and checked around, eat the crackers and went back to sleep. Good boy. Nothin' gets by him.

Geddy is always eager to “help”….😳

Maybe he thought I was going to blow away his little Jolly Ball….

While Im smoking the brisket, he did a little squirrel hunting this morning. Not bad for being nearly 11 years old!

Our lab rescue, Cooper, with my daughter's cat, Sweetie. We He had him us for 10 years. He was a Fox Red Lab and my favorite dog of all time (sorry Farfel). Will always miss him.

My charcoal Lab that I got in October. She is a very good dog and has to be wherever I am. If I go into a different room and shut the door, she will lay at the door until I come out, even if that's a couple of hours. It's become vary obvious that her 50 year champion hunting/field trial pedigree is no joke, this dog was bred to hunt. She's going to be bred with my silver lab and between those two, should have some gorgeous pups.

All my canine friends have been pretty special to me, including my little rescue pup that I share my home with now.

I was looking thru some old pictures to settle a bet with a great friend of mine and came across this one.

This GSD was one of those "special" dogs that was my constant companion for 13 plus years. Loyal , protective of me, great with kids and the people that where in my circle of friends and family.

The picture was taken about 1990 , 35 acres of wilderness smack in the middle of the Mark Twain National forest, Washington county Missouri. My business partner and I built a rustic cabin . Machen (dogs name) would run for hours along side my Honda ATV. She instinctively knew to not wander more than about 50 yards from the cabin when we were hanging out on the deck etc.

I miss them all but she was a special sort.

Nice story you shared Ken,
I had a GSP that was always keeping track of me. In the woods she would lead some but I never had to call or signal I was turning. I could even turn around and she quickly noticed and came running by to lead again. Such great dogs like yours and mine set the bar high for the ones that come after. But I have been fortunate to bond well with even my rescue dogs.

Breed is key and training. I always had GSDs and when we left the city for ranchland, still a Shep. She was a jewel. People arriving unannounced wouldn't get out of their rig (she was just alerting). She and the UPS driver had a special relationship. He would open the door and she would climb in and sit, with the 'look' where he kept the biscuits. She would give her life for the UPS driver. She watched my back in the pens. If a beef got too close behind me she was on it. But she was a bit too aggressive for livestock despite training for years. She didn't stray far.

Now we have Catahoula dogs. They are working dogs but better than GSDs in the forest. My gosh they are headstrong. They stay inside the perimeter and guard their property. Don't let two out at the same time. If one they never leave sight of you and are always watching. If two, they go hunting.

Both GSD and the Cats are clean dogs though. Meticulous for self grooming. This is important to us.

I've really been enjoying this thread. Great reminder of how lucky we've been to have this guy in our lives.
He has been such a positive influence for the whole family.
And this is him soaking wet sitting on the front seat of our landcruiser after a run at the local reserve.
