I have a 2004 L2800DT

I went to NAPA to get some HYD fluid. They told me that AW 46 part # 85-805 would work. Will this replace UDT fluid without any problems?

New member, thanks for the help!

If udt isnt easy for you to get your hands on then you want tgh, trans gear hydraulic fluid. Another reference might be universal tractor fluid.

Hydraulic oil is just that, hydraulic.

Transmissions need gear lubricant, anti wear additives and the list goes on.
Hope this helps.

If you take a few minutes and read the label, there is usually a list of oils that the product is compatable with.

Virtually any hydraulic fluid will work in any system. The key is 'efficiency' and 'wear'.

I had an Allmand backhoe that simply wouldn't work with anything except the AW-46 fluid you mention and like you, it had to be special ordered.

The members you will be hearing from on this forum will largely be in concensus that only Kubota-branded fluids should be used in--especially later models--Kubotas. Emphasis on 'especially' as relates to hydrostatic machines.

I now have a GST in which I can tell a distinct performance difference when using SUDT compared to 'universal' fluid as installed by the previous owner. I use only SUDT in the hydrostatic also with excellent results.

Yes, Kubota fluids will cost more, but the performance difference for the additional cost seems universally acceptable by this audience.

Please post back your continuing experiences so we may all learn.

Have to agree with Stubbyie on this one.

I've been through many different brands (Case, New Holland, Amsoil, TSC Traveller, Sam's Club AW 46) mainly because I'm a cheap SOB. (Well, not the Amsoil which works very well in the backhoe.)

Some of the fluids had to be changed within 50 hours because of poor performance in the tractor.

Finally figured out that the old saying, "The cheapest person ends up spending the most." applies to me.

Now I use Kubota branded oil in UDT or SUDT. Expensive to be sure, but it works so much better. Servicing doesn't come around often enough to go cheap on the oils.
