I accidentally done goofed and cracked the gearbox where it bolts into the mower. I was thinking about either welding it back together or buying another gearbox.

Ive been trying to do my research regarding my 2019 bb72.30 but I cant find any gearbox HP specs for the 2019 model. I see that the 2025 model is 75 hp but I dont think mine is that high.

I found a seller with a 45 hp gearbox and just want to see if that should be good for a replacement.

mower going on a kubota m5660

thanks

It's not a 45HP gearbox, if it was your 50PTO HP tractor would be too much for it.
It's a minimum of a 75HP gearbox.

Looks like there are couple options, one of which is a 45hp gearbox. The other does not look as though it is much heavier.

Woods must have realized they were putting too small a gearbox on them because everything I read says that it should be a minimum of 75HP on their BB72.30 series.

Their rating seems to be, in their own words, "based on field testing". Not sure what that means and if the rating is endorsed by the gearbox manufacturer or Woods is making the claim independently. Either way I would opt for the heaviest gearbox I could get as long as the blade speed is the same or close.

To the OP where is the crack on the gearbox and how bad is it? If in a non essential area you might be able to get away with brazing or welding it. If the area supports a bearing then I would say toss it and buy new.

For what it's worth my brother's old Woods 72" brush hog is over 20 yrs old and it still is running with the old 45hp box ,if it is even rated that high. It has been on everything from a 8N to my Ford 4630 and it still runs fine. Just the deck is getting beat.

It is not so much the tractor but what you use it for that dictates the stress on the components. you could put it on a 100hp tractor and if you only cut 6" grass with it it will pretty much last forever.
