Anyone have an idea what these holes were designed to do?

As the title question asks, I have a L48TLB with the 72" bucket. There are two 1" holes one on each side of the SSQA bracket. I wonder if there is some specific design use for the holes?

I was thinking they would work pretty well for a 3/4" shackle, but the shackles dimensions don't allow the shackle to lay straight. The largest shackle that would work would be a 2 ton working load unit, with 1/2" pin.

Just wondering I guess....any ideas or thoughts?

Bottle cap openers.

Gotta krack open a beer between implement change-overs. 🙂

Could be as simple as a place to hang the bucket when it’s painted at the factory or an alignment hole for the weld fixture.

Have similar holes on my B23S bucket, agree they're for hanging it up in the assembly line to paint and dry.

I'll have to try out the utility of the bottle cap opener idea.

Otherwise, I think I'll pick up a couple of 2 ton, 1/2" pin shackles to see how they might work for chain picking loads. I'm not opposed to welding or bolting hooks to the bucket, but thought I would try this idea first.

Thank you,

Doug

I have the 72" 2006 Kubota OEM bucket on my 2006 L48 TLB
It does NOT have those two large holes.

Mine does have two 5/8" holes though, that are widely spaced, and are on that same vertical stiffener.
Would seem to lend credence to the painting hypothesis.

Its obvious to me that the holes are punched in at the time of manufacture as a place for the dealer to instal their inventory tag! lol,

Kidding aside, I have my doubts that they are used as a way to hang durning the painting process.

Hay Ken, you just have to become a manufacturer and figure out HOW you can paint a bucket, on an assembly line. I've seen lost of 'mystery holes' in things over the years, and they're usually place to hang whatever on the overhead chains for 'painting'. Easy one is the hole in the tip of the earth augers/ bulb planting drills. They hang them on that ,so they can be painted.

I am making a slightly educated guess here, and it looks like those holes would be for mounting an add-a-grapple to the bucket.

Is it possible they're having something to do with a 3rd function attachment? My 23s has the same holes.

Could be. Or for a 4 in 1 bucket.

But I'm thinking that it's a jig alignment hole used in production.

I was thinking along the same lines as @NorthwoodsLife with it.
While it may be handy for paint, the likelihood of holes punched specifically for that are slim. My bet is production related. Either before or after the SSQA bracket is welded to the bucket. Or even both.

Just checked ( OK, finally remembered to look.... ) The holes have to be for production for the BX23S 48" SSQA bucket as only 1/4" gap between them and the frame .

Make sure to try it with a Sapporo or Asahi or similar Japanese beer.. it is a Japanese tractor afterall.

Bud Light definitely won't work out.
