Anyone ever added the optional DIFF LOCK to an L175?

I would suspect that the box highlighted above will contain the locking collar. When you get the kit check out the box and break open the small parts kit. There should be the spring and actuator pin and probably some washers or spring seats. I would say the best path of attack would be to remove both brake assemblies as you want to look at them. Then the top cover and the left side final drive. I think you may be able to pull the side bearing after removing the retainer and hopefully assemble everything from there.

I will see try to take some pics of the pedal assembly on my L225 if I get up to camp this weekend
I would appreciate that a lot. Thank you.
@Russell King the kit DID actually come with a lock ring but it has 5 or 6 pins instead of two like the picture you posted. Since the part is available not too concerned, I’ll share pics when I get in there, and then we’ll see which version fits. hmm

If it came with the kit, I am sure it is the correct part.

I didn’t notice that was a box in the middle of the gasket (in your picture). I thought it was a label on a plastic bag with the gaskets inside.

The hole is there. Weird though, my dad’s l175 has a different style freeze plug. I think a previous commenter may have been right when they said mines just been painted over and was hard to tell.

Funny thing I actually coincidentally met a guy last week that worked at Kubota for 12 years. He let me know that other than an bigger engine, a 225 is just a 175. That helped me a bit. He even had a parts one.
Now my issue is the damn lever is right by my hydraulic block! Might make an extension so I could use the lock by hand.

I did it! Kit had everything needed and more.
Congratulations on getting it installed!

Now be sure you understand how to use it properly! Many people damage them by using them as the wheel is still spinning and that can shear off the pin(s).
Just push clutch in first then press down the lock pedal and slowly release clutch and the lock pedal will move down more when the pin engages in a hole and locks the differential together. Then I hold the differential lock pedal down and get moving (if possible). Also just go straight when the differential is locked, don’t make turns. When you are done you may have to get the differential unlocked by releasing the lock pedal, pushing the clutch pedal down and pulling up on the pedal if it doesn’t spring back up. You may have to slowly reverse the tractor a little bit.

That hydraulic block looks stock but there may have been an alternative block. See below for the illustration- look at the top right for a different design. Those parts are discontinued but @007kubotaguy may have some used parts.

You could also remove that block (cut the pipe #38 in illustration) and tie directly into the ends of the pipe with compression fittings. Or just have the block moved by bending new lines and replacing the existing lines with new. But that takes some skills most people don’t have.

here is a link to a thread that shows how that block is used to change the flow path with replacement of the cover (see post #1). That should help you understand what the block does anyway

Well. Installed it. Worked great. Did some work for a few hours. Went to pull a stump, and the pinion wore out. Just slaps the ring gear now. It was already worn, but I guess the added load is what finally did it in. Anyone know what it takes to replace it? @Russell King

Well that is surely disappointing!

First thing is to find out if you can get new or used parts. Glancing at new parts they seem mostly obsolete in the gear sets. So it looks like you will have to get used parts or buy a parts tractor.

@007kubotaguy has a business near San Francisco area that might have what you need. I don’t have his business name or number handy and can’t get it until Saturday. Please contact him and see if he can help you out. There is an envelope button that will let you start a private conversation. He is top notch to deal with.

If you decide to scrap it out he might buy it from you but I have no idea if he does that.

luckily I’m buying a 225 trans/diff (same as 175 from what I understand) next weekend and just gonna bolt it up. Bummer though, basically did this diff project for no reason.
