It has been years since I laid any traps, and it is a little late in the season but why not. Gone are the days of making any money off a trap line, and trap thieves are a PIA. You wouldnt think people could find an underwater set 110, but they do. I have found rats laying on the bank and the trap gone. So I was just wondering if anybody still traps any more

Just raccoons in the back yard when they stop by The Last Stop Inn.

LOL yep same here, I was looking on line and the fur prices for 20/21 suck really bad. The loss of one 330, a man would have to catch 2 or 3 beavers ( 14 bucks) to cover the cost. Its bad when western yotes are bringing 2 or 3 times beaver, and eastern yotes about 20 bucks, muskrats 2 to3 bucks the only thing high was bobcat upwards of 150 bucks. I guess maybe fur is down for good

Yep she's done my friend. Had to shoot a bobcat here last summer that wasn't well, shame. Don't think I'd get much for it after being hit with the 30.06.

Used to trap pocket gophers for bounty. I'd like to try it one of these years. A lot of raccoons where I'm building.

For a while I was wondering why so many people were turning around on the dirt road just before my driveway but after getting my fare share of raccoons the light bulb went on.

Used to trap and release away from the farm myself but I don't anymore. I figured where I was releasing then (Have-a-heart live trap), the people there were stuck with them so now I eliminate them.

After purchasing my 56 acres four years back I discovered rather quickly I have a population of fishers. A extremely interesting fur bearer that was almost hunted and trapped into extinction. Trapping permits are available now in central Wisconsin for fishers. Perhaps one day but for now I hope to see their population continue to grow.

I don't trap and never have trapped. But I have an 80 yr old friend that comes over and puts out a few and generally get fox , coyotes and fisher.
His Maine accent as strong as any I've heard sometimes even I have to listen close.

My experience with trapping was quite limited. I found a pretty small trap in the woods while metal detecting decades ago. It hung in my storage shed at the cabin for years.
The family that had the place south of mine sent their son over asking if I could come help them. I went over with him & they explained the PO of the cabin had put a cheap, crappy looking skirt on the place (pier foundation) and they had decided to replace it. That's when they found out that the PO had never hauled off or burned any garbage for years, and had just stuffed it under the cabin. As they pulled it out, rats went everywhere. So everyone geared up with shovels, rakes, clubs, BB guns, and my semi auto .177 pellet pistol. We pulled garbage and tried to kill rats for hours. We killed 35 or 40, with about that many running off into the woods. By mutual agreement, we picked a spot on my side of the property line and set that trap. He & I checked it constantly and we probably killed another 20 or 30. (and nothing but rats)
Then one of the area busy bodys got wind of us using a trap, and sent the family & the owners association nasty letters complaining we were "killing wildlife with cruel traps". We stopped using the trap & the guy next door bought a humane "live trap". He caught a few more rats, which he then released under the busy body's house or in her garage.
Ended up selling the trap in an antique store, think I got $40 for it.
