I hear they are the way to go for maintaining a dirt road- right now I use a rake which does work well, but always open for new ideas....

Land plane grading scrapers (LPGS)are the way to go, that's for sure. Nothing and I do mean NOTHING works as well as a LPGS to maintain a dirt-gravel drive.
Just keep in mind that you need about 150+ lbs per foot of width to work best. So if you build or buy, that would be the weight or heavier to shoot for.
Don't get me wrong, lighter units work well, it's just that the heavier units work better.
A good width would be similar to box blades, as wide as the tractor or a few inches wider.

We threw one together at work a while back. We have large areas of stoned driveways and outdoor storage. Using some old beams, pipe, angle iron, channel iron and a stainless plate it took a couple hours in the weld shop.
The two side rails are 10" or 12" beams. The front and rear have a piece of 6" channel across it and we spanned the two sides with 3 pieces of heavy 3" angle. The front piece of angle has a slight forward cant and is has a 1/2" thick piece of plate welded to the bottom. We sharpened the leading edge of the stainless and with the way the front angle iron it protrudes about an inch lower than the sides.
To keep the leading edges of the beams from digging in, we used slices of 4" schedule 40 steel pipe to make a rounded end. It does a great job regardless of who drives the tractor.

Thanks for the reply's. Good info... by the way Mtnview, I have been using that tnt a lot, what a great add on. Chim, thanks a lot for the pics, that is exactly what I was thinking. I will do something similar, it will be a good project this winter. I will make sure it has plenty of weight.
