I was born in 1960, so I heard about and saw hippies, but was too young to experience that lifestyle. By the time I was off to college in 1978, the world had moved on.

Not really!! ;) Maybe they relocated. There were plenty in Boulder at that time.

I spent most of my career as an Industrial Environmentalist. Cleaning up the mess the previous generation left in our groundwater. Protested to save the world and then went out to actually do the work.
Raised a family of CPAs and MBAs.
My house and cars are all paid off, the Kubota is older than 1 of the kids and I am still a tree hugger.
The pony tail is pure white and still well below my shoulders.
I keep several nice pipes but one has never seen tobacco and I help keep the local liquor store in business.

This brings up an interesting point.

Not saying you were one, but did hippies actually drink beer or liquor? Never saw a picture of a hippie with a beer in his hand.

Not ashamed to show my ignorance... 🥴 Still doesn't rule me out as possibly being a fringe hippie of some sort however, since I never drank alcohol until after getting married at age 25. (wife's idea, not mine. She thought beer was better for you than Coca Cola. :ROFLMAO:)

I guess you might call me a former hippie wannabe. I didn't have the hair for it until I left home, and that caused me some grief on the home front with my stepfather. It took a long time to get him to understand that he no longer controlled my life nor had any say in my appearance. Even then, he never respected me for us to ever develop anything that resembled a father/son relationship. We never had a bond anyway, so no, it didn't hurt my feelings any at all. He was hard on me, and if there's anything I did learn from him, it was how NOT to treat children and teenagers. I believe in being strict, but he went WAY beyond the limits many times, including making me keep a Navy regulation haircut the entire time I was in high school in the early-mid 70's, when NO ONE had short hair. It caused me a lot of grief and certainly squelched any hopes of being cool, let alone being a hippie in high school. Going off to college and becoming my own man didn't help our relationship a bit, especially when I showed up with hair halfway down my back.

The only thing that comes to mind is what my dad used to say when something came on the news he didn't like.

And how often did you see a picture of a company CEO doing a line of coke ?
Chances are you have been dealing with ex-hippies all of your life and just never knew it. Some of us became engineers, plumbers, farmers and look like normal people.
I am still more hippie than conservative.

Food for thought. My family taught me how to hunt, my government taught me how to kill.
