Just joined more to get help with some overall questions ... I have 3 acres...1.5 are mowed n kept the other is part time wetlands.. squishy or dry.....I have 2 slopes on each side of the house due to walkout basement. Mowing is down with zero turn. But I'd like a sub compact or compact tractor with fel for dirt sand mulch on my landscaping shovel n wheelbarrow is killin me. Possibly a brush hog for the grass/cattails when more dry in the back. Move my boat n 16 ft enclosed trailer around. ..I'm looking to buy used.... do I need 4x4...do I need power steering? Can I go manual or look at hst. Is a older b7100..7200. 8200 good enough?? Or they too old?? I don't mind tinkering but I don't wanna rebuild things every winter. Price range no higher than say 8k.

If you have soft land I think you’re an absolutely going to want 4x4. You’re good with a hydro and it’ll make loader work easier.

Look for a used BX with a loader - you cannot go wrong - add a 4' cutter on the rear and boom, and even that tractor will move the boat. BE careful with those loads, most all small tractors will move em - but going down hill or stopping them gets the operator in trouble.

NEVER tow anything up or down hill in 2wd - HST works far better in 95% of all applications.

I have a similar situation as you sir, having 5 acres with about 1 to cut (done with a riding mower) and the rest wooded. (I'm in northern lower MI with similar "mushy areas" as well)

I love my L2501 4x4.

I know folks love their B's and BX's and such, but I personally liked the L due to it's looks, and capabilities.

The lack of the "bullshit .Gov emissions " was a factor for me personally; However, many here think thats just a "red herring", and they are probably right.

I could have gotten away with a smaller tractor most likely, but since I have the storage room for the L and I like the slightly larger capacities it has, it was a simple decision for me.

I believe it was a the "perfect choice" given my personal situation.

Hope this helps, welcome, and good luck. (y) (y)

I don't know IF you can get a tractor/loader for your 8K budget ? Probably nothing 'newish' and older ones, well, may have $$$$$ repairs IF you can get parts.
Check local papers, online, dealers for 'asking ' prices to get a feel for the market. My BX23S is 6 years old and I can get what I paid for it, as new ones are real pricey,so used doesn't mean a 'deal'.

A 'BX23xx' series is a good choice. plenty of power, reasonable payload,HST and PS. Bonus would be SSQA(Skid Steer Quick Attach',so you can easily add pallet forks next Spring. You'll need rear ballast to offset the bucket up front. I use a 'carryall' to easily pickup a 'skid of weight', one light of mulch, one heavy for gravel loads'. Others fill their rear tires, some a dedicated HEAVY 'ballast box'.

The B7100/7200/8200 will work fine enough for what you describe, and will run a heavier cutter than a BX will. Also probably cheaper than any BX. It's an old tractor, and reasonably small, so be realistic about what it can do. But they do run for years for many people without trouble - they're pretty durable. It's all down to maintenance and buying one that's in OK enough condition.

8 grand is enough for some relatively new second-handed tractors or compact ones, try find some reliable dealers. well 4x4 is not necessary if you have a flat land.

I've found a l245dt n/a on hrs loader and a back blade... 6500.00. A 2003 bx2200 loader n back blade with 2334 hrs for 6500... would the bx2200 be the smarter buy if I pull the trigger??

If half of his property is wet and squishy at time, I'd suggest 4x4.

would need more info on the L series. It’s double the machine. That said, you would want to look at that BX and see if it has been maintained, does it look to be leaking anything, how does it run? It’s 20+ years old with hours of work on it. Can your local dealer still get parts for a bx2200? Consider all these things before pulling the trigger.
