Thanks for the diagram, tells me most of what I want to know. My Battery runs down over time - usage is infrequent so it may be that the charge just drops. The charge light comes on and off ... Indicating a malfunction of some kind, but because of underuse I can't say for certain that it never charges. At least I now know repair or replacement is pretty major. Thanks again.

It is probably the regulator that is bad.

You can rule out the dynamo really fast with an AC meter, disconnect the 2 wires coming off the dynamo then connect the meter to those leads and start the tractor turn it up to a high RPM and you should see 22VAC or thereabouts on those wires.
