I am new to orange tractor talks but not new to this tractor. I want to convert my alternator from a 4 pin alternator to a 3 pin. What should I do?

You can buy 4-prong alternators.

Thank you for your response and the part number. Yours is the first 4-prong I've seen, and that is what mine needs. The only problem is not with your part; it is with my lack of desire to spend $225 dollars for the correct part. I have noticed the 3-prong alternators are about half the price. This is a tractor I am going to give to my son while he is building a house, and although I want him to have it, I don't want to spend any more money than necessary on it at this point. If all else fails, I may have to spend the extra money, but I am willing to try to convert it to 3-prongs to save a hundred dollars. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

It cost me about $30 to get mine rebuilt and another 30 for the regulator 10 ish years ago. If I was to do it again I'd convert it to a 40 amp one wire.

That's what I would like to do, but it is getting harder in my area to find someone to rebuild an alternator. When I was younger, it was standard procedure.

I agree it's pricey, not saying that's what you have to get but it was the first one that turned up doing a 5 minute search, so just saying they are out there if necessary.

If it's that less expensive getting it rebuilt as bucktail states then add the cost of shipping and send it out to get it refurbished. It might be less than the cost of new OEM and you won't have to mess around trying to rewire it. Just a thought.

Thanks for the good advice. Just a side note: I am also on a Jeep forum, which is helpful for solving problems with my Jeeps, but my Jeep friends are sometimes sensitive to my questions. Some tend to be very opinionated and not wanting to help, but to scold. This forum seems to answer my questions, and that's what I want: just some help with my problems. Thanks for the help.

Most everyone here wants the other members to succeed. I've been wrong TOO MANY times to be critical of others. I'm usually scolded when I give bad advice and it has always been well deserved.

Glad you joined the OTT asylum, let us know what you do and how it works out. Even the littlest detail may help someone else out in the future. Maybe even post some pictures of your son using the tractor at his new house. We love pictures!

As Red Green used to say "We're all in this together".

There's a thread on here somewhere where someone found a one wire Denso that fits with appropriate rewiring. I can't find it through.

THE JEEP THING, can definitely relate to, do not miss the XJ, but do miss the Willys / V6 Vortec!

Well, one uploaded (a L175 Alternator thread), may be the thread bucktail mentioned,
PM me and I'll email the other, it's for a B Series tractor, but may help.
