Any thoughts on how this former gas engine driven blower could be converted to PTO? Or perhaps why it couldnt be?

I'm sure someone here could help you out with figuring out how to adapt it to PTO driven. My biggest concern would be if 540 RPM (PTO speed) is fast enough to make it work well. If it isn't, then there would probably be a gear box involved to increase the blower RPM to make it useful.

Yep you would need a gear box multiplier, they run about $2k for what you would need.

You wouldn't necessarily need a gear box. But you would need some sort of speed adjustment. I'm sure you could do it with pulleys too. Pick up a few bearings, couple shafts, couple pulleys and a belt. Probably a hundred bucks or so at the local farm supply and a few hours of playing with the welder. A little math will tell you what size pulleys you'd need.

For a fan or blower I'd rather have a belt than direct drive anyway just as a safety. That way if it sucks something in there it doesn't turn into a grenade.

Unfortunetly nothing simple about using the PTO. Gas engine is simple and affordable. Thats too nice a blower to pass up.

Interesting take. Im not sure Id find fueling and maintaining another gas engine simpler than hooking up a PTO shaft

Huh?? I did not say that and I thought I was pretty clear. I said there is nothing simple about modifying the blower to run off the otherwise simple to hookup PTO.

But it can be done so if thats your hearts desire go for it. All you have to do is build or buy a 7:1 overdrive transmission with a 1-3/8 input shaft replacement for the existing gas engine input on the blower. Plus build the 3pt frame. Just a few belts, pulleys, bearing blocks and a little creative fabrication - nothing to it.

It was your previous wording that helped me misunderstand what you were getting at. I agree, configuring a PTO setup versus throwing a gas engine on it could be more complex. Im not an engineer, nor a fabricator, so this might be beyond my immediate brainstorming capabilities:LOL:
