Advice on GR2120?

A release button on small, light equipment is common and expected. Most buyers are genuinely surprised when they don't find a description of this release button in in the User Manual, at least this is what several dealers have told me. Yes, most equipment manufacturers in this the class provide documentation of how to release the drive. Kubota does appropriately provide a release, they just failed to document it. No big deal.

I am also a big Kubota fan and am very happy to learn that this button release is there. God forbid I have to use my helicopter :) (Sorry, OrangeLivin, I'm not trying to make fun of you, just laughing with you.)

Thank you all for your kind assistance.

i too was looking at a Gr series just for the size of the tractor i did not want a large tractor and i did not want to buy a BX but, dollar for dollar was better to buy a Bx1870, i have a yard that has lots of obstacles and i mow 3 yards 1-2 acres and never had a issue with turning radius or climbing hills, i owned a 24hp hydro sears tractor and it had lousy turning radius and felt like i was steering a car with no power steering, the Bx steering steers easy and always precise , and drives right up my drive way with out a issue, and on a flat yard at full speed and never had a issue,i did cut my lawn and my neighbor was on his zero turn, yards were about the same size he was done a few min before me, but he did not cut his grass as good as mine.i have a 48" mower deck just to get into tight spots ,i use my Bx once a week to mow and that is it,so i know the tractor will last me many years to come,i figure 60hrs a year on my Bx which is very low but like i said for the money having a loader is a bonus and a Gr is limited to cut grass and move snow and as a bagger that is it i never thought having loader was so nice, and saves my back..

Stutrac,

I appreciate your BX1870 recommendation. I thought long and hard about that one. It certainly is more capable in lots of ways. I have used a BX25 rental in my lower yard before. It worked well. The primary difficulty I had was getting it out of there. After a couple of tries, I put a couple hundred pounds in the bucket and it walked right up the hill. No problem.

The reason I was leaning towards the GR2120 was the tight turn radius. I spent a lot of time jockeying back and forth to mow around things with that BX25. This was made even more difficult with the bucket out front. Of course, if I bought one it would have a quick release and so it would be a couple foot shorter without the bucket on there.

That lower yard is also damp and soft much of the year, so a heavier tractor is at a disadvantage at times.

I’m also in that older age group that Kubota says needs to carefully evaluate its ability to stay safe. I’m probably better off with a smaller and lower-to-the-ground mower. I do wish it had a ROPS, but that would keep me even further out from the trees.

My wife says I should get one of each. I could often use a loader. No single machine, toy, boat, camper, truck, or whatever does it all. They all have pluses and minuses and so maybe we really do need to get one of each.:)

Thanks for the insight.

i remove my bucket when mowing, turning radius will be low with the bucket on anyway,i also felt safer with the ROPS, with my loader on and moving stone up my hill and going up inclines and on steep angles with bucket
i did use my ROPS in the lock up position and it also gave me more light when working at nite too, i added the ROP light kit , and you are right the GR has no ROPS especially if you go up and down hills, that was not a choice for me to buy a BX but, even with my Sears i did have to lean on the edge on the edge on seat on some hills, on flat mowing i fold my ROPS
