Adding trailer hitch to G1900

Hello,

I would like to add a trailer hitch to my Kubota G1900 lawn tractor to tow a small garden trailer. I searched on the internet for some pictures but without conclusive results.

The tractor has a plate mounted to the bottom of the differential and I have seen people simply mounting a ball for towing there. I do not think this would be the correct way, I think the force should go into the frame. I found a picture where there was a different type of hatch mounted on an frame (for grass collector?).

All tractors seem to have this plate, so my questions are:
1. what is the purpose of this plate below the differential?
2. how did a trailer hitch as supplied by Kubota look like?
3. at what height should it be mounted?

Any hints, thoughts, suggestions, observations, pictures welcome!

The plate is to pull a cart with. A ball will probably not fit into the hole in that plate. The plate is really to attach a clevis style hitch with a pin.

There are adapters that can be used like this

But trying to put a lot of tongue weight on them will damage the tractor plate sometimes. Using them to move empty trailers is fine but you need to be careful about how much load you try to move.

Whatever hitch setup you use be SURE it's mounted ON THE FRAME and NOT the differential/HST unit !!!

Bad new when pulling a heavy load and hitting 2- bumps in a row. The combined 'shock' could yank the toe plate out of the $$$$ HST unit. Several here have posted similar results when having a weight on their 3PH and the rockshaft cover is destroyed.

The second picture shows the far better setup.

thank you very much for the replies !

Ok, so the plate should be a hitch but as I guessed already it is not a good idea. I will make something attached to the frame and remove the plate altogether.

All I want to do is pull a tiny trailer for garden tools around every now and then, the small tractor is not built for pulling heavy loads anyway (although I came across a video where a guy pulls an F150 up a slight slope but having traction problems eventually with the tyres ).

This is what I did a few years ago. I removed that plate in photo #1 and had a custom four bolt plate welded to a stock class III hitch receiver. You can then use any ball mount.
