Need to add a few hundred pounds to the front of my L175..on a budget. The front 'bumper' was mangled by the previous owner and there is no FEL.

Suitcase weights seem to be $100 each (used) and as mentioned, the 'mount' for them is mangled (and kubota wants $260 for a new one).

SO..I"m in search of ideas..add concrete to the front..I can form it into shapes easily enough...I can weld so perhaps make up something to hold them..like a barbell concept perhaps.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Do you have a welder? You can make/fix the front bumper hangar and make your own weight(s). I made a nice big weight once by turning some plate into a box with an angle-iron hangar. I filled it with a pail of old bolts and nuts cemented into place with fence post concrete mix, then welded on a cover and handle.

Had my son make a very simple metal box, top has a slot in it - box weighs about 25 pounds, the 20 ft section of chain with hooks inside the box weighs something like 30 pounds more. Utilized the holes in the front bumper that is stock on the B7100.

It works well when I have to cut grass up a very steep hill!

Relatively easy to fix weight to the front, but I'm wondering, did I read correctly, there is a front end loader on the tractor? I find it surprising there is a need for weight on the front of a tractor with a loader

Sometimes it's best, and less expensive, to make it right the first time instead of tinkering around with odds and ends.

I suggest making your own holder and get some suitcase weights at your local Lowes. They have 42 lb. suitcase weights for $66.00 each. No freight charges if picked up at store.

If you don't like the "green" ones then look at the MTD suitcase weights that are sold at Home Depot...

too expensive - need to add maybe 150, 200 pounds. So at 1.40 a lb that's $300.
And I'd need the new bracket to be able to hang them on the tractor, so now we're nearing $600.

Need a cheaper alternative

Like it was said if you weld or know someone that does your good to go,,, Head down the local thrift shop ,yard sales garage sales and or even at the school gym and find a bunch of barbell weights. They are cheap and a hanger can be made with out to much fuss, AND they are easy on easy off when you dont need them

You need to read your own post because it says “there is FEL”, before you chastise people for not paying attention to your post.

This is where I got the idea. It simply says, "...there is FEL"

The answer one gets can only be as accurate as the question asked.

Since you have little, or no, money then it looks like you answered your own question.

a helpful reply...not.

I've seen dozens of ways folks have added concrete to the rear...how about the front?

Concrete is cheap -and even one bag will help a lot! So .....make a form that will hold the concrete in the shape you want. Add two bolts that will allow you to use the front holes on your machine's front already. See photo.

This way you can mount it or take it off anytime you wish.

If you want specific and constructive ideas, how about posting a picture of the front of your tractor showing the mangled area you are wanting to attach something?

The cheapest and most efficient way I found for my b7500 was to make a custom steel box with 1/4 plate and fill it with concrete. It gives a weight of around 200 lbs. It is bolted on the 4 holes on the frame. Quick to make, custom shape. The best

Concrete weighs around 150 lbs per cubic foot where steel is more like 490 lbs per cubic foot. Pick your poison.

If you've got scrap and the wherewithal to put together a rock box, that's a cheap and versatile option as well. You can put rocks, scrap, or sandbags in it when you've got something on the back, and empty it when you don't. It can also be used to carry chains, splitting mauls, and other things that may come in handy and to pick rocks that you may come across.
