Adding Draft Control to MX5400 with Rear Remotes

Hello everyone,

I recently helped someone with box blade work using a tractor with draft control, and now I'm eager to add it to my MX5400 ROPS. My tractor has three rear remotes, with the second remote featuring a float detent.

From what I've read, Kubota suggests that a spool with a detent cannot be used with draft control and I would have to replace it with a spool without a detent. However, after inspecting the remotes, it seems the only difference is a slightly larger assembly at the bottom for the detent spool. The parts diagrams suggest it shouldn't interfere, but I'm not entirely sure.

Could anyone with an MX5400 or MX6000 that has draft control share pictures of the linkage and the area where it connects to the hydraulic cylinder case? Any insights or advice on installing draft control with a float spool would be greatly appreciated.

I realize that this thread is almost a year old, and not sure how I missed it, but I have draft control on my MX6000 and have three rear remotes with one being the FD (float) variety. I can take some photos today of "the linkage and the area where it connects to the hydraulic cylinder case" if they're still needed.

I was running the box blade behind the MX last week (now switched out to the grading scraper) and had draft control on the most sensitive setting and it worked well.

While I'm not the OP, I am thinking of putting in a couple food plots that I may plow/disc, and am curious if adding draft control is worth the investment on my MX5400. I have 2 rear remotes, one with float. I also use a rotary cutter, tiller, box blade, and grader blade fairly often. So the draft works with a box blade, too? How about on the others? Thanks

In theory, draft control works with any implement that puts a variable rearward force (pull) on the 3-point. The position control lever controls the depth of the implement, and the draft control lever controls the sensitivity to changes in draft (changes in pull on the 3-point by the implement). @MtnViewRanch has a lot more experience with draft control and can more than likely answer all of your questions.

For the record, I have draft control on both tractors and ordered that feature when I ordered the MX. It was $1,050 installed back in the fall of 2021. It comes standard with the M6060/M7060 models.

Draft control can be beneficial with both your box blade and your rear blade. Pretty much anything that has a cutting edge that puts a drag on the tractor and is connected to the 3pt hitch.
Learn when and how to use it and life will be better.

I believe that an exception to the cutting edge statement would be it also works with a 3pt disk.

Thanks for the input. I already ordered the kit and installed it this weekend! If didn't route anywhere near the spools and fit perfectly. I guess Kubota is concerned that you could had a top and tilt with one of the cylinders in float while trying to use the draft? Both my local dealer and Messics said it's not compatible if you have the FD spool via some note in the Kubota info.
