Hello everyone , I have come across a series of YouTube videos by Adam Savage that I have been binge watching the last two nights. The guy calls himself a "maker" and that he is. He tours shops around the world, explains his new milling machine, makes movie props, discusses tools...... . Lots of good ideas, and a good presenter. I thought many here might find it as interesting as me. Give it a look if you like. You won't be disappointed .

Adam Savage, as in Myth Busters? Smart dude, but why do I need to give him money?

NOT for me... if they beg for money (you have to "Join" to get their "good" content) I just move on. So much better (and free) content out there to watch vs. wasting time looking at his B rated stuff.
I have not been asked for money while binge watching his videos. There are commercials.

You can bypass utub commercials by using Brave Browser, or Firefox with AdBlock Plus. As long as you don't have to "join" anything, once you block the ads you don't "pay" for anything.

Ok I'm really confused as it's a free to watch channel.
I don't even see a Patreon account link.
Why you think you need to pay for it?
And yes He was one of the myth buster guys.

On a related subject. Some areas have "Maker Spaces"..... a shop with all the goodies (Lathe, milling-machine, dial-indicators, Plasma-cutter-table, welding machines....etc ) where you can 'rent' time or even be a member.

For those of us without a shop... it provides a place to fix/build all manner of metal creations.

It seems that many folks here on OTT do not realize that uTube is FREEEEEEE to watch (with ads)

Yes, some of the uTube channels are poorly done and I to move on. (I hate handheld cameras which jiggle the picture)

HOWEVER: Many uTube creators use multiple cameras including drone-cameras to provide high-quality, entertaining, shows.

If you have Comcast, uTube is available on your TV by pressing the microphone button and saying "YOU TUBE"

My wife and I both find the content on uTube to be FARR more entertaining than what mainsrream-media calls 'entertainment'. Virtually any subject-matter one can think of is available on uTube. (including tractors and anything related)

There are several uTube channels I follow including:
  • Welding
  • Metal Fabrication
  • Diesel engine rebuilding
  • Excavation (earth moving equipment)
  • Electronics
  • Auto diagnostics and repair

I learned a lot from utub videos on many different things. Car/truck repair, milling, lathe, battleships. Check out the Battleship New Jersey channel, the curator has done a bunch of videos walking through the ship and showing parts of the ship you will never see on the tours.

You can spend days just on one subject and still not cover it all. Oh, Project farm is a good one. This guy has an unorthadox approach at testing things, he doesn't use a "lab" environment, but a real world environment. He did a test on a bunch of diesel additives, and found HotShots friend to be the best. I started using it after that and now can't find it anymore at the local stores, all sold out!

I read somewhere that "The internet had replaced God". Without opening a can of worms I will say that YouTube has greatly enhanced my knowledge base and quality of life over the last several years. Maybe watch YouTube after Church?

I have never seen an ad on Youtube using Firefox and AdBlocker Ultimate.
In fact, I rarely ever see any ads on any web sites.
Brave works well to block ads also.

I have read this comment several times and will relegate it to the drawer in my brain containing my thus far unsolved Rubics Cube. It contains questions, answers, a declarative statement and a link. My first D grade in college was in technical writing the second was in accounting. Simplification is key I have learned.

On Firefox, some sites that have ad block detector will pop up and block you, like some news sites, but in Brave, the built in ad blocker bypasses those detectors on 99% of the sites. In fact, if you watch CW on Brave, no commercials. It strips out the commercials before it starts, so there is a delay before it shows, but no commercials.
