YUP. got hung up going uphill....

just wouldnt go any further.. had it in 4 low & the turfs were just spinning.

good news is i was bush hogging on the way down... so back up it was just a good wheelie bar.... & it didnt slide backwards when i dropped the hog to the ground that way.

so had to go get a come a long & the strap..... pull her up 12' at a time until i could get some traction & then she came right on up.

which brings me to the dilemma:

run turfs to not tear up the yard..... they obviously caked up real quick & gave me bannana's to climb with.

should i go to R4's? (will those destroy my yard?)

or am i expecting too much out of the little tractor in the climbing department?

its my 7200HST

so yes im asking for opinions.

wife says i just need to get a "bigger" tractor..

Tire chains for those wish i had better tires moments. Cheapest option.or mount a winch on it

Yep. Try chains first. Heck of a lot less money and fooling around.

Just so you know, if you tip the tractor back on a brush hog, you'll find out rear fast that it's really not that good of a wheelie bar as it comes up and smacks you in the back of the head!

If you spinning turfs all the way up a hill, #1 maybe the hill is too steep, #2 your probably not "not tearing up the yard"

You would spend a pretty penny if you could even find the right size R4's for it, because you would have to most likely change rims too.
And if you think R3's are slick and easy to spin, you would be spinning R4's 150% of the time over what you are doing now. ;)

Permission to buy a bigger tractor, go for it! :D

Oh yeah. Dont even worry about it. Hang your head and reluctantly go get a new tractor

Great strategy to get another tractor! But if your weather has been like ours I am wondering if this was a fair test? Top 3 inches have thawed and turned to slime while underneath is frozen? And you were brush hogging on a hill!

I slithered in 4 wd to the back pasture, squishing the heck out of what was left of the grass with my R4's on Wed. Temp has dropped so it will refreeze. And spring will come eventually.

you guys rock & thanks for some great input!

to the comments:

YEP i mowed on the DOWN path of this & on the way back up turned the hog off & just let it ride light on the back wheel.

NO my turfs dont tear up my "regular" yard.. never spin them there... & it didnt start spinning till the top part. im sure your right it was probably too steep.. but thats where she wants her hiking trails..

so your saying the R4's are no better for traction?

YES its pretty steep... no big deal on my RZR... but this aint a RZR.
im guessing its 25*ish (someone better than me could do the math... its 40' rise over 160' long rise..most of it in the top third.)

CHAINS!! duh why didnt i think of that? put them on for over the hill work... take them off for yard work. YEP the search will begin!

sounds like i was too willing to throw money at my toy instead of the common sense approach.

YES i like the "bigger tractor" idea too! but this one is paid for.... & 2 daughters headed to college.

YES its the same here SHeep.... very slimy once you spin the leafs/cuttings off of it.

keep the input coming!

& if you got a line on a set of chains? throw it at me!

Wow, if the wife said go get a bigger tractor, there would be nothing but a vapor trail out the door. Barring that, try adding a little weight to the front, since the weight of the hog is probably unloading your front tires some. I run Turfs on my BX, and I filled the tires with windshield washer fluid, and it made a difference when pushing dirt, tilling, etc. I didnt want to pay for the beet pulp, or use salt ( although if I end up putting tubes in the rear tires, I might change to salt-the fronts are already tubed). You might need a little additional weight even if you ballast the tires. Also make sure your tires aren't overinflated.

If your not running liquid ballast in tires.......lower your air pressure?? along with previous suggestion of adding weight to front when got implements on the rear.

25% ... thanks! figured it was in there somewhere..

i did make it last week without getting stuck.. "thought" it was dry'er...

about the weight on the front= i have my blade & such on the front, but im with you guys! maybe i need about another 100lbs or so up there?

now about that NEW TRACTOR part: id love to move up to a 2301 or 2601 with FEL.... but gonna have to do my taxes first & see whats left over... i dont like payments.

will grab a picture for you guys & stick it in here tomorrow.

Sdk that tractor of mine that was slithering a bit on relatively level ground was an L3560 with loaded tires, bucket full of manure on the front and heavy back blade on the rear. I looked real carefully at the slope down to the manure pile last week. I doubt if it could have gotten up your grade. The only thing a bigger tractor will do for you is dig a bigger hole if you get stuck. Since I don't like getting stuck, I'm thinking discretion is the better part of valor. It is one of those deals where you find something else to do until it either actually dries up or freezes, unless you are desperate to get rid of the manure, or like eipo, haul pallets of wood. And then anyone in mid Mi if you see good prices on grass seed let me know. :D

My wife would only have to tell me ONE TIME that I needed a bigger tractor, and I'd be all over it!!!!! Mine would be on Craigslist tomorrow and I'd be looking for a new one!

sheep: yeah your right should have let it go for another day.. but knew the weather was gonna get worse.. & was trying to make the wife happy by getting a little farther on her trails.

EIPO: naturally, as soon as you took them off you get stuck... will make sure that doesnt happen after getting them. (so i say)

Jeff:
as mentioned would love to "move up"... but just cant "yet".. You guys will be the first to see it when i do though.

COach: oh my... not gonna let her see that comment or will be hauling gravel after the paths are cut.. my toy has no FEL. :-0

seriously though, did look at some chains last nite & will go out & get the tire sizes wrote down tonite & take a pic of that path... but its all snow covered now.

oh on the chains: picked out a set of 2 link V bar's... does that sound ok?
