AC works normally, with good pressures L 28. H 270. For about 20mins at 1500 rpm. Good site with some bubbles. Condensor and all filters clean. Then compressor freezes belt runs over with noise low side pressure spikes......? Shut down tractor....wait 1 hour AC works normal then the malfunction repeats.....

No fun when the AC goes out. Pressures are temperature dependent, the ones shown in the WSM (WorkShop Manual) are at 90 degree F. So for future, when giving pressures also give temps.

I'm assuming that when you say that the compressor freezes, you mean that the compressor locks. My recommendation is to first check the magnetic clutch and the air gap. Instructions found in the WSM page 10-S22. Also check that power is not being interrupted when the compressor locks.

This is also assuming that all filters are clean and good air flow across all coils and heat exchangers.

Within the last two weeks another M7040 owner with AC issues found the evaporator under the seat plugged with debris. Even the drain line was plugged.

The high side pressures you have are above the WSM ones of 185 to 242.

If you need a WSM send me a private message with your email.

Welcome to OTT
Have you checked evaporater under seat to be sure it's clean & has good air flow through it? What do you mean when you state AC compressor freezes up? Is AC belt snug & in good condition?

Your & my similar replies appear to have been posted at same time. My experience down here in the Texas heat is that AC high side can get to 300 psi & AC will still function correctly. Yes I try to keep AC high side pressure a little lower.

When you turn off the A/C or disconnect the compressor clutch, does the belt stop overrunning? If not, it's a pulley bearing issue. Highly unlikely it would free up and work normally after an hour.

More likely; Any chance anyone overcharged the system trying to eliminate all sight glass bubbles? This season I recovered over 5lbs of R134 out of a Dodge Avenger that called for 1.18 lbs. with similar symptoms. Compressor didn't lock up but it was hammering away like a jackhammer. Helpful neighbor threw in a couple of cans every year in a system that wasn't leaking.

Make sure you have good airflow across the condenser also. Condenser outlet line should be only slightly warm to the touch. Inlet line will be scalding.
