I have a 9960 MFWD. When in reverse it started making a clacking noise, doesn't make it going forward. I sounds like it is forward of the transmission, but I can't tell if it is the front axle or the drive shaft.
Any ideas where to start?

I would jack up and support the front, then turn each front wheel and listen for strange noises. This should help you narrow it down.

Noise with FWA engaged, disengaged or both?

Check all the lug nuts for proper torque. Also, if you have 2 piece wheels check the bolts holding them together. Loose lug nuts or bolts holding the wheels together will cause noises like that.
