Has anyone tried installing larger frt tires on a M7040 MFWD(9.5 x 24 vs 11.2 X 24) for better handling of rd bales of hay? Rolling circumference of 9.5 is 123 & RC of 11.2 is 129.
Thanks,Jim

While that's not a ton of difference in RC, it is enough, especially with a large amount of weight on the front, to do some big damage if it binds the front end up.

Here is a option for you:
Comparison:
9.5-24
RC 123
6ply
1100lbs @ 12psi
1870lbs @ 30psi

13.5 x 16.1 Yes I know it would mean changing rims.
RC 124
8ply
3520lbs @ 24psi
5200lbs @ 44psi

So if you have the clearance for a 16.1 inch rim you could get some killer floatation and weight/ load bearing out of it.
It would be the C tire.

Wolfman,i can imagine that you dont sleep much.all this wonderful knowledge you have stored away has got to keep you up at night.

I think good call on tire upgrade, as going taller will tear up a driveline in short order.

Another option that might be cheaper is have you front tires foam filled, They end up weighted, strong and semi solid, they still absorb solid hits. ;)

I have my front done and as a loader tractor I love it! :D

I've heard foam tires ride rough. I use this tractor to pull a disc cutter and the fields are rough from gopher & fire ant mounds so I need all the cushion I can get.

We tried foam filled on the skid steer at the quarry and it cost more in the end than it was worth. Yeah the tires would last until they came apart but between the ruff ride and the added weight it beat the bearings out of the hubs.

JMHO, I wouldn't use foam filled on a farm tractor.

You guys might be right, I have very soft rock free dirt and it's not rough at all, but I see where it could be.

I still stand behind my 13.5 x 16.1 tires! :D
