Hey guys I'm new here but I've looked around and can't really find anyone with experience running a 5 ft bush hog behind a bx2660? Does anyone know how it would handle it motor wise?

No, manual recommends a 42" and I run 48" which works fine. You might be able to spin it with the 2660, but I'm sure not going to put mine through it.

The reason I ask is, a while back I got a quote for a L2501 and he priced out a 5 ft cutter. And I asked if it would have any problems running it and they said no. So I figured my 2660 might be able to handle it.

Just my opinion from briefly checking, but 25hp is kind of misleading, look up the engine specs on each, it looks like the BX makes its power at 3200 and the 2501 at 2200, 540 PTO is quite a bit different, doesn't show the torque curve, but the engines are a lot different.

A 5' will be a bear on handling and hitch configuration.

If it was a power problem, you could just drive slower. The problem would be the weight so far behind the hitch, size, and lift. The flex joint hitch and the smaller lift range of the BX make it harder to get the rear wheel up on something that heavy and large.

Youd mostly have the HP, but not the mass to handle it. The L2501 weighs nearly twice what a BX weighs. I think youd be asking for trouble, but you know your situation best...

The L2501 1413 lbs heavier
the lift at 24" is 179 lbs greater than the bx at the pin.

You are comparing apples and oranges. HP is only one factor.

We just had another one of these that came up, not sure of the real outcome of the other post, but if the implement is too large and not recommended for use on the tractor by the manual it can void the warranty.

On the the HP and usability side, an L is always going to outdo a B or a BX. ;)

Do you already have the BX and 5ft cutter? If not, don't buy one of them.

If I had a BX and had a 5ft cutter, I would leave off the top link, set minimum front height with check chains, adjust the rear a little higher, and use it as a towed mower.
