Good on you for doing the maintenance always best to take good care of good equipment. However, the cost could have been much lower. According to the manual you only needed to replace the HST filter, engine oil filter and oil and maybe the air filter element if it was torn up.

Your prices look very similar to what I've paid in recent history. Different tractors, but I pay about same for my filters, fluids, etc.

I would put these on the shelf:

Not wasted $$...you're gonna use them, just not at 50 hours, in my opinion.

Air filter should be checked. I don't think fuel filters need a change on a new tractor at 50.

Do you have a '57 Plymouth?

You could also have saved about $170 in UDT fluid. I think I used about 2 quarts, not exact, probably less when I changed that filter. My total cost was about $150 for my complete 50 hour.

Completely agree, in fact I stocked up myself. I have several of each filter, plenty of engine oil, UDT2 hydraulic fluid, grease, belts, pins, bushings, etc.

I figured these things are going to just go up in price and or become harder to source as times continue to get crazier. Better to have them and not need them than to need them and not be able to ever get them.

I'm not going to get into this debate, but there are some differences of opinion whether hydraulic fluid should/shouldn't be changed at 50 hours.

What the ops manual says versus WSM, etc. Also, intervals have changed over the years.

Some do. Some don't.

I did and glad I did. Would do it again, given what I found.

Some don't and glad they didn't. They saved that first fluid change $$.

To each their own, and I respect both.

Yes RCW, I do have a 57 Plymouth. My great grandmother bought it new, and I live in the house she built. It was my first car, and I still drive it.

I see that it is possible that I do not have to change the UDT fluid. I totally get that. However it's cheap insurance on a $25K machine. I hope to keep this tractor as long as we have kept that 1955 Ford 900 tractor and that 1957 Plymouth.

Remember to check the front axle fluid level while you are doing that service. The only issue I have had with my L3901 has been a sticky PTO cable / lever, it's good to lube the cable and lower mechanism.

My BX was low, and back then a leftover model that set outdoors for months.

I changed that also at 50, but I don't think that's needed at 50 for a tractor that hasn't spent months on a lot with water, etc.

Just make sure it's full.

That was the only “extra” thing I did.

The Parts Manager strongly recommended changing out the UDT they deliver the tractors with for 90W.

I went with his suggestion.

Once I started draining the front axle, I was assaulted by the stench of 90W gear oil.

Since I was started I just changed it anyway.

Mildly annoying, but not a big deal.

Really. The 50 hour on my new L3901 cost about $90 and $15 of that was shipping on the filters.

After this thread last night, realized I didn't have air or oil filters on hand. Just used both couple weeks ago.

Don't have fuel filters....grrr, was right there this morning....
Think I'm okay for shear pins for the blower....I think....better check again.....

I keep quite a few spare parts for the pellet stove, too. Could almost build a new one if I had body castings....

Years ago, was looking for an air filter for my dad's Stihl 056 Super Chainsaw. Those were all used up years ago. Parts were hard to find.

Friend was a long-time dealer. Computer showed they had one, but the old stuff in the parts room was a mess after a move.

I kind of had run of the place. I stopped after work for 3 days and sorted through there. I could have built 14 saws from the parts....but no filter for a 056 Super...

Just did my 50 hour service this weekend on my LX3310, about $152 in parts, I changed the outer air filter and only used 5 quarts of oil, but wanted a spare quart on hand. Used about 2 quarts of hydraulic fluid that spilled when changing the filter. Not a bad process at all.

I had the dealer do my 50hr. Figured if they screwed up,they have to fix it.....besides it was hotter than Hades that week...something I can't cope with. I've done all the rest though, I just 'book all day' to do it.

My dealer wanted $600 to do the 50hr maintenance on a B2601. I paid $89 for the oil and filters and did it myself in 30 minutes. Small town dealer so...
