I have a couple more areas that I would like to disc and add seed, hopefully I can get to those this week.

I drug out about 300' of water hose to the food plot closest to the house. This is pictured in the last food plot in the video posted above. Fingers crossed, we're expecting to get some rain in the next 36 hours, this will help get my other food plots growing.

All you need now is that rain. Are you doing this commercially or for your own use?

Own use, just me and brother and our kids primary hunters for deer, I allow other family/friends to bird and hog hunt.

Yes sir, I got 4/10ths of an inch this morning when the coldfront blew in. I'll take it! I just started the sprinkler again.

The back food plots started to germinate today. I also noticed on camera that I had a new sounder that visited a feeder last night, 9 sows, 2 boars, they were all 70lb plus to 150lbs. I need to build a hog trap.

The motion sensors/alarm kept going off the night before, no hogs, there was deer at feeder and 6 or 7 eating on the food plot. I finally just turned off the alarm so I could get some sleep.

I didn't rake this area prior to disc, but it seems to be germinating well and the deer like this plot too.

Looking good. I didn't think I would ever get any rain to bring my food plots up, but finally did.

Hogs got into two of the plots (where I had peas planted) and pretty much wrecked them. Rooted through the other two as well, but I was able to over-seed those.

Definitely build a hog trap if you live on your property and can bait and check it regularly.

I've been shooting, trapping, snaring hogs for 30 years on my property and it while it does make a difference, it seems they just keep making more.

Awesome. Any pics of the plots?

I'm doing USDA grant work on my place of clearing brush, I got about another 7 acres to clear. The hogs seem more interested in those areas, they never touch my plots last year, just rutted up other areas.

What door are you using on that trap, I plan on building that figure 6 trap and a door like that would work. I have 2 sounders that recently started hitting my feeders again.

I shoot some really big boars here, 250 to 315lbs, they can wreck a weak trap.

My neighbor runs a figure 6 trap.

The floor has cattle panel with 6'sides, T post are every 2ft.

My brassicas planted in late August were mowed down by the deer, but the Winter Rye planted in late September is now coming on to replace it.

I use a 'Saloon' type door on my pen traps and trip wire.

If you build a Figure 6/9 trap you won't use a door. The hogs push past the last panel when they enter.

If you build a large pen trap, avoid building with 'corners'. The hogs can pile up and some of them climb over the top of the others.

Also use the tallest panels you can find and preferably use 4"x4" squares. That way piglets can't get out the bottom (as with cattle panel) and it is not as easy to climb (though you'll lose some to climbing out).

Not sure on that one.

The spring scale I had at the time only went to 300 lbs.

I have since gotten a digital scale that goes up to 600 lbs.

We have some pretty healthy hogs in Deep East Texas.

I've killed quite a few well over 300 lbs. but never anything that would get to 400.

Even some Sows (weighed) that were over 250 lbs. One was 280 lbs. That's a big sow anywhere.

But those are exceptional hogs. Mature Boars (3+ years old) will run 250-325 lbs. Sows about 160-210 (some heavier if carrying a load of piglets).

But I don't assign one pig over another any importance according to weight. They are ALL destructive and I don't hunt them for sport. Rather...to keep them from damaging my property.

Feral hogs are a scourge and I kill as many as I possibly can....of any age, size, weight or shape.
