5.7 Hemi owners?

Looking at a 2010 Ram 1500 with a 5.7 hemi

anyone own one? opinions?

I haven't looked closely at it yet or taken it for a ride...
quick web search said to watch out for the "hemi tick" from the lifters ...

also read about the "drop cylinder" system for fuel economy is a pain in the arse. But I guess it can be shut off when you start the truck or shut it off permanently with a tuner.
It does have an aftermarket dual exhaust on it, so maybe that was done.... will see.
body is solid ... nice little run around town truck. probably roast the tars pretty easy too...

Don’t know where your at but watch for rust around the bed wheel wells and in the rocker panels. Look from underneath.

I had a 55 Chrysler with a 355 ci Hemi .

I'm on my second vehicle with the 5.7. The first one was 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Gave that one to a niece with about 130K on it. No real issues with that other than I did notice a slight oil burn on cold start when the weather was cold. Fixed that with high mileage oil (seriously, that issue disappeared running valvoline high mileage). The only other repair needed for that one was a water pump at about 80K. The current hemi has very few miles on it (2026 Durango).

I'd say that if you're looking for an older ram/hemi combination, I'd be looking for about 2013 or newer in order to get one with the 8 speed ZF trans. That trans makes a big difference in how the hemi performs.

If you’re comfortable with the price buy it. Hemi Tick loves to be talked about on forums, highly overrated. Millions of hemi 5.7 running strong. I have 2018 ram no issues so I am biased

I've owned 3, a 2010, a 2017 and 2022 all of them treated me good, no issues. It all depends on what gears are in the pumpkins, my 10 had 355 with an open diff, not real bad but not great. My buddy had a 2010 with 392's and a locker (tow package) and it was a pig on gas. My other 2 had 321 gears, both one leggers and not bad at all for a truck. Never replaced a part on any of them however as stated rust can be an issue depending on where it's from or if it was undercoated ever year, good luck

I had a 2019 and now a 2023. No problems but I did have an issue once with the 2023. Started it and it was running rough, ran it for a while and seemed to smooth out but every time I put a load on it like going up a hill the CEL would come on then a while later go off. Kinda felt a cylinder wasn't firing or maybe a valve problem because of the ECO Mode thing. Only did it that one time and have put a couple of thousand miles on it with no more issues.
I do disable the ECO Mode by pressing the gear select button once I get rolling.
But other than that one glitch both trucks have been great. They also have to work for living towing a 6000lb RV trailer and a 10,000lb dump trailer (not loaded to more than 7000lbs). I've dragged the RV all over the country a few times with no issues. Can't say the same about my Silverado 2500 Duramax
I've also heard reports of cracked manifolds.

I bought a 2018 in 2021, had 84K on it ... It had a very mild case of the Hemi tick for about 45 seconds on very cold start up, as in 40° F or less in Arizona, when I bought it in Tucson it was 85°!

Reading on one of the forums it was recommended to use the Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic 5W20 AND add some of this stuff ...



Which I did ... Now even at -8°F in Missouri no tick!

I disabled the MOD every time I remember ... Once in drive, I press the minus gear button on the steering wheel, then the plus button to bring it up to 8th gear, then drive!

95K on it now ...
