Digging/pushing with the FEL is analogous to pulling a box blade IMHO, with the obvious exception that there is much more weight and grip on the fronts with FEL work.

My tractor is SO much better with the BB in 4WD, and I use 4WD when using the FEL also.

Otherwise, I'm "just spinning my wheels!" ;):p

To Alan's point, no sharp turns when in 4WD pushing/digging hard with the FEL, though. Keep wheels straight, or nearly so.

Back when I lived in Illinois I hired the snow removal crew for our properties. The owner told me they never plow in 4 wheel drive for that exact same reason.
Sounded logical then and now again when you say it.
Yet i plow my 800 foot driveway in 4 low. But i dont get rammy.
My older truck i used to use was lighter and it was hard going when blade was angled. Turned truck around too easy. The present truck will hold the line.

2wd especially when loading, lots of back and forth and tight turns. If rear wheels are spinning, stop it. You are doing something wrong. Many many tractor loaders are/ were 2 wheel drive and got by just fine.
Using a tractor as a battering ram is never a good thing.
