48" vs 60" rear mower

I have a 19HP, B8200, 4WD kubota. My question to a seasoned veteran is , I was told elsewhere that I should use a 48" rear mower as compared to a 60". I've looked and found a 60" is cheaper than a 48". But a 48" is what a tractor this size should pull, but if I could get away with a 60", I'm going that route. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thanks Tom

60" cut won't be much help if you screw up your tractor by overloading it! You might get away with it for a while or if you just don't have that much to mow, but my guess is if that were the case you'd be mowing it with an MTD! Spring grass in the Bluegrass can get away from you in a hurry!!

I don't think you'll hurt your tractor pulling a 60" mower. May have to slow down in the heavy spots.

I used a 48" Land Pride finish mower and upgraded to a 60" Sitrex SM-150 with no problems. Lawn is hilly, rolling and uneven. My B1750 (20HP) has no problem with the larger mower.

Just my experience, I am using a 60in finish mower on my B7100 (16HP) and have no issues other than needing weight on the front. Bogs down if going fast in high grass but for weekly mowing it save me a ton of time.

I am no expert and don't claim to be, but if my 31 year old B7100 runs my 60 JD 261 just fine, I have hills, dry spots that never grow and wet spots that grow ferns like crazy, it handles them all and even takes out an overgrowth of raspberries when necessary.

In my B8200 manual it says its rated for a 60" finishing mower and 48" rotary mower. If 60" finishing mower is what you are looking at then it should have no problems.

Reguardless of which one that you choose I would look at one thing before I laid the money down. Check the blade tip speed. I bought a cheaper finishing mower one time with a tip speed that was around 10,000 fpm. It did ok in normal grass but if it was just a little damp or tall I would need to cut it twice to make it look good. My Bushhog mower is 13,000 fpm and it does much better. My brothers Scag is 18,000 fpm and it make my Hog blush. Another added benefit to a faster tip speed is that it will cut the grass and get it spit out much quicker which would make it even easier on the tractor therefore making the 60" you are thinking about that much better.
