4630 axle leaking

Can the axle flange be separated from the front gear case without dismounting both from the tractor to check the oil seal? had hay twine wrapped around the flange.

Yes - when the cover is unbolted the axle, flange and gear come with it. (Drain fluid first - bottom plastic plug) There are two half-rings behind the gear trapping the assembly together on the axle.
