My steering shaft separated at the universal joint

The rod connected at the knuckle along side the engine came out of the compression fitting at the knuckle. We were able to re insert and get steerage back to the barn. The proximal end of the Rod is chewed on on side. Not fully round. I don’t believe it is fully inserted. I get service tomorrow, seems like a weak design.
