I'm looking for a used box scraper, and found a 4' Befco in good condition with all four rippers. My question is, is this too small for my B7500? I have a 200 yard long gravel road down to my pond, and maintaining this would be it's primary duty. I don't mind making multiple passes, but didn't know what the advantage of the blade going out past the width of the rear track.

I have found that a rear blade is move versatile for maintaining a gravel driveway. Yes the box with teeth may be handy for loosening up hard packed areas, but for the routine work, no. You don't see county highway departments with anything other than a grader with blade for most work on gravel roads.

Some where in here someone posted pictures of his rear blade and had made up a set of sides for it , It would only take a couple of minuets to take the side plates off and on,, a great idea, as soon as I can find some descent prices on scrap steel plate

I have used the rear blade, dont really care for them. Unless theres a lot of weight on it,it tends to ride up more i would like. Then when it digs in- lookout.

A long drag type of tool will take the high spots and fill the holes.

If there was some sort of blade mid mounted like a grader, i'd be all over that.

Not knowing your machine too well, a quick search should the tractor width 42". So i think it would be just right. My 200' drive is elevated above the grass on half of it. So the box blade works good for me. Keeps the gravel from rolling over the sides, into the grass. Its a 1 lane road, so i make multiple passes. Ive used it 2 years with no problems. I have a 60" rear blade but use that for snow only, havent even thought of using it for the drive. Not much weight there either.

cerlawson, you do know the ripper teeth lift up when not needed. When you do need them, they are invaluable. "invaluable" does that mean "worth a lot"???
