Anyone have any experience with Land Pride 3pt spreaders or any other manufacturer? Are the 3pt hitch models that much better than tow behinds? I have a little over 2 acres that will be treated about 5 times a year including lime so I'm looking for long term ease of use.

I have a small one that holds about a buschel of rye seed and it works great. Before that I had a comerical lawn spreader that would hold 2 u of seed or300 lbs fertilizer. The tractor mounted one works better for me as it spreads the seed more even and I use less seed because I maintain a constant ground speed. The tow behind one was always bouncing and I had to slow down which used more seed or fert. I can do twice as much with the tractor mounted one as I did the tow behind one in a much shorter time. I bought mine at an auction for 1.00 about 10 years ago. I saw on another web site there is one made by HERD and it looks similar to mine Model 3pt M 96. It is on there website

I used a 3 point spreader for several years and have also had several box store pull-behind spreaders over the years. No comparison. The 3 point runs off the pto rather than from the rolling of the tires on the little spreaders. Instead of a coverage pattern of several feet, a 3 point spreader will disperse seed or fertilizer over a much wider area (15-20 feet for seed; up to 40 feet for lime pellets, fertilizer, etc.).

The pull-behind models - at least the ones I've seen - are cheaply made and do not hold up to heavier material. Conversely, the big 3 point spreaders are maybe overkill for a couple of acres, however I prefer their reliability, and they make covering 2 acres a quick, easy chore.

The good 3 point ones have stainless steel components for corrosion resistance. Even so, cleaning them thoroughly following use and storing in a dry place will keep them in top shape.
