Looking for a rake for my B series. I want to be able to use it for leaf and tree bark clean up. I don't need something that really digs into the soil a few inches, just something that profiles the surface. Any ideas? Would my best bet be a landscape rake with gauge wheels? Maybe just fabricate something using 5 metal rake heads that slides into my receiver hitch? Ideas?

Thanks
Nate

Sounds like what you really want is a broom more than a rake.
Or maybe a bristle rake, it has more flexible teeth than a landscape rake.

I have a landscape rake, and feel it is pretty close to useless, except for getting gravel back on the driveway in the spring.
Do these pine needle rakes really work? Do they do pine cones?
The ad implies it is god's gift to mankind for lawn maintenance...
That's what I was talking about when I said bristle rake, just had the name wrong.

I used to use one of those for long cut grass, leaves, pine needles and yes pine cones, it worked perfectly. :D

Just let me know if you want to part with it, I've been trying to find one lately.
I hate buying new if I can help it.
I have a ton of duff that a landscape rake would work perfectly on! ;)

I will look it up wolfman, I may just go get 5 replacement rake heads and make my own. Should be fairly simple.

Glad I looked at this, I was about to buy a landscape rake. Those things on everythingattachments looks just like the Agri-Fab dethatcher I have, except it has more rows of fingers. I'll just keep pulling it around.

Bought this rake last week. Very happy with it. Howse and Leinbach also make one, but have welded tines, which makes for expensive shipping and difficult delivery( LTL freight, think semi).FedEx delivered this one and I put it together in about an hour. I discovered by putting a 1 1/4 piece of pipe through the tines it was much easier to assemble as you could lift all the tines at the same time. Also make sure to put bottom two bolts in from the rear otherwise they will interfere with clamping bar.
I looked for one of these for a year on craigslist and only one showed up and was gone in less than a day. I also have a York rake and a landscape rake and like and use both, but for picking up leaves (mine are oak), pine straw and small branches the pine straw rake does the best job and moves the most material. I also intend to use this rake for planting grass seed. Can scratch the surface at very shallow depth and then use it to cover and then roll.
I think you would be disappointed using regular steel rake heads. the tines are too flexible and I think once you got even a little bit of material under them they would just start sliding over everything and I don't believe they would hold up on a three point application(too easy to bend). The other option is an estate rake, which is like a small hay rake. But then you still have to move the windrows and it is not a three point attachment.
Good luck with whatever you decide. Tom

Major Tom, sir, could you tell us the make and model of your new rake, and where you got it? I'm sure you meant to give all of us those details.
Many thanks!

The Pine straw rake from EA is very effective for what you are describing. Those Agri -Fab dethatchers cannot hold a candle to them.

I made this rake to get up pine needles. The rake teeth have a little bit too much distance for pine cones however.

I purchased my Pine Straw Rake from Everything Attachments for leaf removal, very pleased with the results.
Thats pretty impressive. How many passes with the pine straw rake did it take to get all the leaves up?

Oh and hiya neighbor!

If you guys want to build a rake that works for grass, leaves, twigs, pine needles, or raking the rock in your drive I can show you how to build one. I'm new here and don't post pictures, but I could email them to someone else to post.

Basically, I took the pick-up teeth from an old square baler ( the teeth from an old round baler would work just as well). That's 4 pieces that are about 6' long. Made a frame from angle the length of the pick-up reel and about 3' deep. Build the 3 pt. arms to attach to the frame. Bolt the 4 bars to the frame. Works excellent. Been using them for 20 years.
