Hi. I'm new here. I have a problem with my 3430 running. I traced the problem down to the starter solenoid. It will cran and run good without it. So I ordered a new one, put it on and it will turn over but won't start. I took the new one off and it runs fine. The solenoid is working. What could be the problem? Thanks for any help.

Something is not adding up???
An engine will not crank without the starter solenoid installed.

Post part #'s or better yet a picture of the part in question please.

I think I explained it wrong. Its the fuel shut-off solenoid. I cant post a picture, but it has a rod that pulls back when the key is turned on. solenoid works. it will crank without it, but when I put the new one on, it will turn over , will not crank.

Have you checked for a bad fuse or wire in the solenoids circuit? Sounds like it isn't getting power when you turn it on. That might have been the problem all along.

I will check that, rentthis. Its getting power because when I plug the wire in and ground it, the rod pulls back. im wondering if the rod is too long and not letting the fuel come through? Thanks.

The solenoid goes into a plastic tube inside the engine. As I recall, the tube has a spring inside it. Is there a chance some of that was lost when you swapped the solenoid?

I felt a flat piece with an indention in the center. I could push the piece in and it would come back out. Felt springy.

I doubt the solenoid stem is to long. How does it match up to the original? If it runs without the solenoid and the solenoid is getting power and retracting, there must be a problem deeper in the shut off system. My next guess would be to replace the plastic tube that the solenoid stem goes in. It should just pull out as I recall. We need the Wolfman D2Cat Tooljunkie et al to weigh in. This should be simple.

As best I can tell, mine doesn't have a plastic tube. Theres a hole that the solenoid goes in and inside the hole it feels like a small round plate with an indention in the center. I can push the plate with my finger and it feels springy. if I push it in and release, it comes back.

That small round plate is the end of a tube. There should be a spring inside the tube. You should be able to fish that plate out of the hole and see what I mean. That tube should have a small spring inside it. You can probably tell it the spring is there with it in place. If that isn't the problem, I'm lost.

Oh. Sorry. I didn't know that, about the links. I will have to look when I get home, on the part number.
