I bought an L3800 last year without the added rear hydraulics and Id like to buy a splitter to use with it. Can I use the hydraulic connections from the loader to power the log splitter. It doesn't come with hoses so I was thinking of having the hydraulic shop make me a set long enough to reach the front controls. Is this an option?
Thanks

Does it have it's own valve?
If it does you would need to reroute the pressure line to the splitter (not a tee) and then from the splitter back to the loader valve.

If it doesn't have it's own valve then no it won't work very well.
Using the loader valve as a control would be extremely slow as loader valves are not designed for that kind of flow rate.

Either way it's going to run slow, the factory pump is not really designed for that amount of flow and pressure.
You would be much better off using a PTO powered pump to do the job. ;)

Saw a splitter built to mount on a loader frame, using both bucket cylinders. A rod to activate the hyd control. Slow but worked.
The best action is to use pto,and its own hydraulic tank and control. Leaves bucket free to do what it wants.

Thanks for the direction. I'm hoping to find a splitter with its own pump all included. I just would rather use the tractor then have to maintain another small engine on a tow behind splitter.
