Hydraulicly wet behind the ears that I am, I ordered a 3 point hitch log splitter from T.S. for my M5040 thinking that the remote hydraulic system connections at the rear can power the splitter's pump.

But now that I look at the tractor's manual, it seems it is a 'push - pull' system. It is not apparent that it can supply a constant fluid flow.

Can you just leave the control lever in the 'push' position to accomplish this?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Russ, I'm also wet behind the ears when it comes to hydraulics, but I think it will work if you use a bungee cord to hold the tractor's lever in the push position and here is why. My dad bought a M5030 w/ a bushog FEL. The so-called-dealer (now out of business) had simply plugged the hoses for the FEL in the back of the hyd. outlet on the tractor and supplied the bungee cord as well. It was a real pain in the ass to use and you couldn't use the rear outlet for anything else. I talked it over with the Kubota dealer where I lived and figured out how to fix it. It involved putting a power-beyond-outlet on the FEL controls and splicing into the tractor's hydraulic lines so the FEL would have constant fluid and fluid pressure is supplied to the 3 pt. and the rear hydraulic outlet. Maybe someone who is "dry" behind the ear hydraulicly can jump in and verify these facts. Good Luck!

I may be fixing to tell you wrong so please forgive me if I do. I think if you use a standard remote valve to power a hyd motor or drive you will overheat your tractors hydraulic system. This would be where you will need a flow control remote which is normally listed as a optional third remote on the M series tractors. You can set these to allow the proper flow to power a hyd drive motor but limit the use of "full flow" hyd power which would overheat. These systems are not set up for a extended full flow usage because it doesn't allow enough time for the oil to cool.

Having just dealing with a lot of hydraulic issues on my M8540 I think you can run it.
I run a hydraulic post hole digger on my FEL with no problems. The regional service rep. for Kubota looked at my set up and found no heat problems.
As far as hock-up, I would put in a rear 3rd function remote w/ hold on.

Thanks everyone for the valuable advice.

I managed to get a copy of the operating manual for the 3 pt. splitter. The mfgr recommends tying off the push-pull control lever. So I'll go with this approach until I can install a more suitable 3rd function controll on the aft end. It will be important to monitor the oil temp; it just makes good sense.

You may be interested to learn that the 3 pt splitter that Tractor Supply sells is made by Speeco (http://www.speeco.com/).

T.S. customer service was great. They directed me to Speeco whose support was equally helpful with the downloaad the manual.
