3 phase converter.... Deal or No?

I see one of these for sale locally.... for $150 bucks.....

I know nothing about converters and have no need for one.....

But, I'm not against making a few bucks flipping it....

any thoughts?

Certainly a steal at that price. Could be flipped for a decent return, but would it worth the time dealing with potential buyers & scammers?

No question that I would buy it for 150 bucks.

Kind of a “niche” market though……….Out of all the people I know personally, I’m the only knucklehead that would be interested………. (Hell, none of my friends even know what 3 phase is, but they can recite the batting average of the Dallas Cowboys from memory……. )

I think I am going with a VFD, but for that kind of money, I might be swayed…...

I do not know anything about that company though.

If you need to run something within its range grab it! Seems like a good deal especially if you can pick it up in person.

Reading the technical description its designed for powering hard starting loads like an air compressor. It has logic that repeatedly cycles start caps into the circuit at the zero point on the phase transitions. Thats a new idea to me and I have no idea if it works as claimed. Seems like cap life would be shortened considerably.

Did you happen to read what the Minimum starting HP was?

My buddy has a one similar (different brand) and it's 3hp min / 5hp max
It will not start his lathe unless he turns on his Bridgeport....

I just skimmed the blurb. I dont understand why there is a minimum. Can you explain the starting process.?

But I happened to be talking to a friend of mine ... to quiz him on value of this one...

and he asked about min HP
Then told me about HIS converter and how it won't start unless he has over 3HP draw.

A normal RPC is started before any load motor. Once the RPC is up and running you start one or more load motors. The RPC simply supplies 3P power and knows nothing about the load motors.

For “investments” ….most things…of which I’m not familiar…. I stay away from.
I see too many examples of folks who actually DO know about the item…. who lose their shirts anyway.
In most cases, It takes a person thoroughly knowledgable about the product AND it’s marketplace to successfully “deal” in them.

I’d suggest you simply observe what happens with this seeming bargain …and, for educational fun, see what transpires.
