hi everyone,
I have a land pride rta 1258 tiller and am looking for some help on how to make sure i am using it properly as far as how it is positioned on the 3pt hitch. the tiller at 540 rpm runs well and then it seems too often that the tines stop, so i lift the hitch up and they are going full blast again. i understand that if the tiller hits a big root or something, that is expected but it happens when it is just tilling dirt. is it a positioning issue as far as how it is entering the soil? i am tilling it behind my l3560. this is my first tractor and tiller so i appreciate any tips.
2nd question. i used a disc on my four wheeler for years to do foodplots. it worked well. now i have the tiller as described above and a tractor, should i go to a disc over the tiller? and if so, does anyone recommend the land pride ones? thanks guys and gals. i hope everyone has a great day

It's not the position that is the issue, it the Slip Clutch is set too light. ;)

A rototiller will do a better job on the soil than a disk if the plot is small, if it's large I would use a disk for better speed of tilling.

Position should be the tiller sheet metal sitting level, when in the ground, working. I agree with NIW, you need to find a manual for the tiller, it should have the dope on tightening the clutch...:D:D

man, i love this forum...you guys and gals are the best. i wouldn't have even guessed the slip clutch!!!!!! i did loosen it up to slip it when i got it in march and i must have tightened it too much. thanks so much for the insight guys!!!!!! i am really appreciative of that info, you have no idea. i have the manual and it says to make sure the default length of the springs is 1.15" i will make sure they are close as possible to that. so pumped to get those answers and see that there is possibly a fix to an issue that was quite honestly, ticking me off to the point of wanting to get rid of the tiller. u guys rock. take care and thanks so much
