Well it could be worth it. But 7 months is a long time for thr cylinders to be full of water. If it was sold alot sooner it could easily be salvaged so long as it wasnt salt water.

The 3310 is a hard pass but the 3902 doesn't look like it's rusted as bad... But 5K is more than I would be willing to risk on it....

Hit with a firehose for a few hours while a building burned next it? So the insurance company wrote it off.

Or submerged for a month in a shipping container at the bottom of the Long Beach harbor?

For 8 grand I'd pass without complete information.

Yep, no way. Judging by the pictures (if flood water) it got at least as high as the hood vents and oil filter (if not higher). Was it fresh water or salt water? Electronics (in dash) are surely damaged.

Unless I could bore scope the cylinders.....to see their condition its simply too much a gamble.

my guess since they are still on the overseas pallets is more along the line of your shipping container scenario.

When I bought my BX23S the dealer had picked up two new ones that were in a flood. He said the water was only just over the tires. We went out to the yard and looked at them. He jumped on the first one and tried to start it. No go! There was only a $5000 discount and no warranty. I said no way and purchased new! I had so many projects lined up for a tractor the last thing I needed was to be fixing one instead of using it!

I dont know if they are great purchase prices considering no wheels tires FEL and God only knows what else they need and how hard it will be to get everything! Then considering what the internals look like if there is water inside and how long its been in there. Its a gamble!

After watching that video I will say that he lucked out, but he should have drained the transmission prior to starting the tractor since he wouldn't have mixed the water and oil and would have gotten all the water out. In fact, had he done that he probably could have saved the oil by making a device to siphon off the upper part of the oil since the water sinks to the bottom. I used to buy flood cars to rebuild wrecks, and we always drained everything first, and then added fresh fluids and started the engines. Sheet metal and body/frame parts were used to rebuild the wrecks, engines, and transmissions were sold as used, and interiors went into the dumpster. These were the days before salvage titles, so you could make a good living rebuilding cars and sell them without fear that the next owner was going to have problems. The only time a flood car made it back onto the road was if the water didn't go any higher than the carpet. Then those cars were cleaned, new carpet, door panels, kick pads, etc. and they were ready for sale.
