I did a search but couldn't find an answer. I have a 2018 XG850 I bought new in 2020. It is time to change the plugs. Before I go to the dealer are there any aftermarket ones that will work? Thanks Mike

cross reference the plug numbers and take your pick
I tried that with all the major brands for my 2022; none of them had anything*. I used Messiks to get the Kubota part numbers.

*ETA: Amazon showed plugs, but I didn't trust them, so do not include them.

That engine is very picky as to what spark plug is used. I would get them from the dealer.

Thanks all. I will pull a plug this week, and post a picture. If the only place to get them is the dealer then I guess I will be visiting my dealer by the weekend.

A long time ago they were NGK MR7J-9. I don't know what they are now, new part number. Maybe MR7F??

NGK MR7J 9. This is one of the plugs I pulled out. I guess I am off to the dealer tomorrow to figure out what the replacement is.

Thanks for the Kubota number. $20 bucks for one spark plug seems way too steep. I guess they have a really high markup on these.
Thankfully there's only 2 to buy. Pretend you are buying high performance iridium core plugs.

BTW I had to buy a new plug for my chainsaw recently. Amazon prime had them with "free next day delivery" for only $20-$80 each. I went to Canadian Tire and bought the plug the same day for $2.99

I went to the NGK web site to look for them or there replacement. They didn't list any, so I went to contact us for product support, and asked what the replacement number was. I doubt they will respond, but I hope they do because these have been discontinued. I will give it to the end of the week to see if I hear from them. Ya never know.

Well I got the answer.

"Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. I do apologize, they are not available aftermarket as of yet, Kubota have not released the part to be sold aftermarket. They are only available through Kubota dealerships.

Generally if the plug number (MR7J) begins with an M, it's an OEM only plug-not available to aftermarket. At least not right away.

Polaris is the same way, MR7F and MR9F. $20 a piece. People often get hurt about the price and will tell us "don't put plugs in it"-and later on the plug fails and it won't run. Especially the 900's for whatever reason, and the plug "looks" perfect. Then they're griping because "it won't run". Toss $40 worth of plugs in it, 30 minutes labor time, tax, fees, send it back to them. BTW plugs only fail in the middle of deer season out in the sticks where daylight has to be pumped in. Murphy's law applies.

I replaced them yesterday. They only had 300+ miles on them, but most of those miles where lees then 50 yards at a time.
