Hi All, I am considering upgrading my tractor situation and was wondering if there are potential issues to consider regarding the regeneration emissions feature on this particular year of tractor. I am not sure when the emissions components were changed and if they were more problematic back in 2018. Thanks

IDK about the MX5200, but my MX6000 has had no regeneration issues. About once every 40-50 hours for 15 minutes. Mine was bought in 2021, so it’s probably not much different than the 5200 model.

Pretty sure the 4 cylinder engine used in my L is the same engine in the MX5200 with a different tune. Bought mine in mid-2019. 600 hours currently. Regen intervals about 50 hours. No issues so far.

I had several Kubota Tractors with DPF systems requiring regens the list was a L3901, MX5800, MX5400 and a SSV75 Skidsteer. The tractors would regen around 25-55 hour range depending what RPM I ran them the Skidsteer would regen between 15-60 hour range or the same reasons. I never had any problems with any of the Kubotas I’ve owned they all were very reliable machines. I wouldn’t shy away from a Kubota becasue of it’s emissions system type. I think there were some models that had problems like the B3350 just do good research of the different models before buying any used tractor and you should be fine.

I will just add that the B3350 used a much different system (reformer) that was a massive failure. The reformer after treatment system was replaced with a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) that works in conjunction with a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The DOC + DPF system has proven to be much more reliable.

I know someone who has a B3350 and has managed to make it into a reliable tractor. He got it at a great price so the cost to get it to where it should be was worth it. He didn't need to go down this path but I think the challenge appealed to him.

I know I keep saying this, but no one should worry when it comes to buying a tractor with DPF. Not only do they work really well as they come from the manufacturer, they've also proven to be reliable over the long haul if regens are performed as required. But perhaps more importantly, there are options available in the event of an expensive failure other than paying $$$ to a dealer, or for those who simply don't like the concept of DPF/EGR. I think it's just about the perfect situation.

I am way north of two thousand hours on my MX6000 and have had zero issues with the regen system. Until August I am the only one that has operated the MX and I don't idle the tractor around. I run it at two thousand or more RPM and adjust the speed with the range and HST. I normally go 50-70 hours on a regen. In August we had some 92 MPH winds come threw and it finished a lot of our trees and damaged one pole shed. I put the MX6000 on the deck over flat bed for hauling brush about mile to a farm we have with pasture and CRP. One of the guys that helps me with farming duties was operating the MX and was idling it a lot. By evening the first day he pulled into the brush pile area waving his arms at me as I was waiting for him to show up so I could slid the brush off the trailer with the JD 7320 and loader. I get out the tractor and go over to him and he says there is a light blinking on the dash. I look and its just the regen light and he didn't have enough RPM'S to get the light to fully come on and complete the regen. I throttled up the MX to get the light to go solid and complete the regen. I explained he needed to keep it at two thousand RPM's or more and when he did the regens went back to the normal hours of usage.

The most common cause of regen problems is a defective operator's seat.
