Hey fellow orange people, i am just wondering what you guys are using for engine coolant in your BX23s tractors, whether its just a topping off the reservoir tank, or changing the coolant out completely. I`d like to top mine off but i dont want to run to the dealer just to get KUBOTA coolant if i dont really need to. I just want to make sure i dont need any special kind of "Kubota kool-aid" coolant to use in this tractor, nore do i want to pay for the Kubota name on a regular jug of coolant. Those of you that have used other brands of coolant, please post what you bought and used in your BX23s.

Just one more thought i had - are you adding any coolant additives in to your coolant changes when you flush out the old coolant?

The manual specifies long life coolant that is ethylene glycol coolant.

That’s a good question PaPow, I’m always weary of mixing the wrong coolants. Never had to worry about this stuff back in the day.. I think most all was the same.. Green. Lol

No doubt about it! Well over 50+yrs using the old standard green stuff, never froze an engine up in my life. Now i`ve got a truck that use`s the 10yr coolant. Ever price out a gallon of that stuff at the dealer...? Hang on your wallet! I think it must be made from unicorn tears, makes it weely weely WEELY special. Stuff like coolant should be as expensive as it is, but we`re ALL at the mercy of the dealer just because its MADE so specific these days. Personally, i think its just another way to rape the customer. So thats why i started this thread, to see what others are using in place of the uniKorn tears for kubota BX`s.

And yes, be very weary... i did that to a vehicle once, it cost me dearly to fix it!

when u get it, get it full strength then run down to the dollar store and get a gallon of distilled water and mix it 50/50 yourself. Cheaper that way.

I take no chances.. specially with me new tractor! Plus I think you’re right.... however they can get another dollar..

That was my thought as well. But i just wanted to hear that from others who have done it.
And i always run distilled water in every engine i own. Dont need those minerals in there...lol

For sure... i always buy the concentrated full strength. That 50/50 stuff isnt good enough in my area.

Yup, i hear yah. Some call it paranoia, some call it being to anal, i call it doing it the right way.
Less problems, less worries. Sometimes less is more.

I dont mind buying from the dealers at times, but i dont want to buy the whole damn dealership.

full strength antifreeze will FREEZE before 50/50 mix does...

But I think Lugbolt really means that you have to drain out whatever is there, clean out the system some what and install the green as new.

I do recall seeing a Preston’s bottle of green that stated it could be used like a universal fluid to replace red, blue, green (or some list of colors).

I haven’t had to deal with any of the newer long life anti freeze yet.

I think it depends on the engine. I want to remember that a "wet sleeve" type engine requires different anti freeze, but do not know any details as to why. I do know that my B2910 Kubota can use standard anti freeze.

Hopefully someone with real knowledge can add something...

I've got 2 diesels and 4 gas, ALL get the same, basic,cheap, storebrand antifreeze for past 20 years..none have any problems......

If your diesel is a wet sleeve type, you do need to use a low silicate as it breaks up the minute air bubbles that bounce around in the coolant and erode the sleeves from the inside out.
All dry sleeve and parent bore diesel engines use common automotive antifreeze.
Your BX is a parent bore engine.

You do have gases in the fluid and the pressure changes in the fluid causes the gases to cause bubbles that then contract causing the tiny implosions that is cavitation. It is the shock waves that damage the material near the points of cavitation.
