Changed hydraulic filters and fluid today. Put 10 gallons fluid in (takes a little over 11 to fill) checked to see if it was touching the dipstick yet and it showed about 1/4" above full. I drained all 4 plugs and replaced filters so it should have been empty.
went to the front plug (the one with the split pin), loosened it and removed it and no fluid came out.

i dont want to run it, thinking the forward compartment may not have fluid in
it

Any ideas???

You cant possibly get it empty and nothing should come out of that plug.

Drain enough to get the level to the full mark on the dipstick. Start and run it for a while then check and add if needed.

Dan I really appreciate your response. What puzzled me was when i opened the 4 plugs fluid came out of that one as well. Will drain from the rear plug and give it a try.

Thanks again

Are you saying the plug in the bottom of the clutch housing had oil behind it?

The dry capacity for the hydraulic oil is 11.1 gallons, the oil change capacity is approx 10 gallons as you can not drain all the fluid without disassembling the entire transmission, rear axle, and hydraulic system.

I thought I remembered fluid coming out of all four of the ports the Kubota manual says to open to drain the oil. There are 2 in the rear (one on each side near the rear wheels) 1 forward of those by about a foot and then the one I'm asking about 3' toward the front.

Right now, it is full of fluid and if I remove that plug, nothing comes out.

What would be the purpose of this plug be?

I have changed the fluid quite a few times, but have never had to drain any fluid off.

Just for my knowledge, can one of you explain the purpose of the plug and why it would not have fluid under it?

BTW i bought the tractor new and it just rurned over 3000 hours.

Any info and advice will be appreciated

These are the 4 plugs that drain the hydraulic oil. There should be another plug with a jiggle pin through it on the bottom of the clutch housing. It is a drain in case water or oil gets into the clutch housing. The pin jiggles while the engine is running from vibration to keep the drain hole clear.

There should not be any fluid in the clutch housing.

PERFECT. Thanks much for the clarification. As many times as I have changed the fluid i never realized this. As mentioned in the past I have always been able to fill without overfilling. I went to the one in the clutch housing. When nothing came out, I thought something was wrong.
It would help if Kubota didn't list it as a "drain" as shown in your diagram.

Whitetiger you made my day. Thanks so much for clearing up my confusion.

God Bless

It is a drain but not for the hydraulic system.
