I just serviced my rtv900w. oil, filter, air filters, fuel filters. I also installed a fuel shutoff right before the fuel filter. when I first purchased the rtv in 2005 i replaced the standard fuel filter with (pic). Now when I go down hills, it stalls(sputters). runs fine level or up hill. idles fine. just going down hills.
Any Ideas?
Thanks.

It seems you suspect something you did with fuel system is causing this so we will concentrate on that. That filter looks oversize for this application, you may need to take extra steps to get air out. Have you tried purging air from system after filter was changed? Inlet and outlet are marked on filter, are they reversed? Did installation instructions say which side is up and down? If not, try flipping filter temporarily. Unless filter is downstream from pump, you may have to add a low pressure pump between tank and filter to minimize effect of air bubbles. Speaking of bubbles, have you inspected fuel flow to make certain pump isn't introducing bubbles into fuel where they become trapped in filter? A pinhole on suction side could cause that.

I replaced the original filter in 2005. Never had this problem. I did replace the complete fuel filter system this time. I did not purge the system. i figured that it works well, idle, flat and uphill. it should be purged. the filter only fits one way. it bolts to the frame. have not checked for bubbles, but since it only acts up going down hill. I will check though and bleed the entire system. Thanks for the input.

You could try to eliminate the shutoff as the problem by removing it from the system. I don’t see why it would be a problem but it would be an easy enough trial to try. I think I would probably just replace the entire hose, valve, hose with a single hose - if it is easy to get to both ends. If not that way maybe just use a hose coupler to replace the valve.

Do you know where the pick is located? is it a flouting or fixed pick up.
I did add the shutoff this time.
I believe it's fixed at the bottom of the tank, but I don't own an RTV900.

Check the return line also (goes into the top of the fuel tank) make sure it's not restricted.

And check to be sure the air filter is clean.

That is my next step to replace the entire hose. I not sure how much stuff i have to take off to get to the bottom of the tank, but i don't have much choice. I am going to go down hill, in reverse to see if I have the same problem.

Thanks.

i will check the return line. I put a new filter in, but I will check it also.

Check the fuel output from your mechanical fuel lift pump; that is probably what is giving you issues.
The fuel filter assembly you added is a kit for RTV900 from Kubota.

if that was the case, wouldn't effect uphill and level? I backed down the hill and it worked ok. I then put it in neutral and coasted down the hill and it still stalled. or since when I am going down hill the fuel tank is below the filter. Is that is why it is called "lift "pump. I will check it out.
Thanks
