Hello all. I've been looking for a decent used tractor for some time now, and have used this site as a nice little information tool. Now that I have found a tractor I figured I would create my first post and get some advice...

The tractor is a 2003 L3000DT 4WD with loader and a backhoe (BL4690). Has 450 hours, runs great and looks to be well taken care of. Owner is asking $12000, seems like a good deal to me but I wont lie to you, I don't know a lot about tractors (I'm trying to change that).

What do you guys think?

Edited:

I should have put a little about myself and my use for it:

We just built a house on 28 acres and I have a ton of yard work to do. Main use now will be moving a little bit of dirt, leveling some ground, brush hogging, tilling and a few other basic jobs.

The tractor new (depending on the dealer) was about $11K, loader $3500 and the BH about $7K.

New price you're looking at almost $22K, so with only 450 hrs. unless it's really been abused you're getting a tractor that's just getting broke in for half price. Realize ahead of time the L3000 is as basic as it comes. It doesn't even know what a bell is and the only whistle is coming from the operator. On the other side of the fence it only has 2 safety switches and that's about it so you don't have any electronic problems like some models have. Great little tractors, I love mine.

If you get it I would change all the fluid unless the owner has records that prove it's been done.
A few extra goodies you may like:

Optional double element air filter kit
Vent kit for the front axle, eliminates pressure in the front axle
A set of L4300 telescopic stabilizers instead of the turn buckles
A quick attach for the loader, in case you buy forks so you can change them quickly

Thanks Bulldog (and others). I think I am going to pick it up, after all the searching this is easily the best deal and the best tractor for the money around here. I was wrong about the BH, its actually a Brush Hog 735H, not that it really changes anything for me.

He does have records of the fluid changes he's had done, it was most recently done last fall and he replaced all the hydraulic hoses at that time as well.

Again, thanks for the help.

I don't think you'll go wrong. I bought mine new in 2000 and it's really been a good little tractor. Like I said it's about as basic as they come but it's very dependable. I put more time on that tractor than anything I've got. Keep us posted on what happens.
