This is where Tru Fuel shines, takes the guess work out of mixing.
Any of the premix stuff is great for folks who don't run a two stroke much. It has no ethanol and a long shelf life. You can also leave it in the machine with no bad effects.

Not good for me because I'll run gallons through my saws and the premix is pricey. I am able to buy 91 octane non-ethanol and mix 40:1 with either synthetic Stihl, or Husqvarna oil.

Outboard water cooled two stroke oil is no good for a chainsaw, or trimmer! But for the average homeowner who just uses occasionally it will keep the machine alive for awhile. Most of the old two strokes are lower rpm and could run longer on just about any oil.

I spend more time with a chainsaw than I do on a tractor. I run high performance, high rpm saws and get years of service using the right mix!

Any old mix air cooled or water cooled mix gets dumped into the 4 stroke ridding mower,...

In this case the auto parts guy was right.

I have too much invested in my saws to run the wrong oil!

But I do run outboard oil in my outboard.
Hard to believe good advise came from Autozone but it happens.

I'm with you on this one, yeah the saw is cheaper than a merc outboard but the saw still cost hard earned dollars just the same. I believe the smart money is spent on the propper oil for each application. JMHO

Yep. The right oil is not much money and plenty easy to get.

For my saws and weedeaters I buy Stihl 2 cycle oil engine oil, mix it 50:1 and I will put Star Brite fuel treatment in it to keep it from going south and turning to water. Haven't had any problems yet.

That will work Eric!

I like 40:1 with non-eth 91 and Stihl Ultra.

But my saws aren't stock and aren't Stihl. ;)

I agree with Bluegill and others that say use the correct oil for the application. But hey, it's your equipment, use what you want.

Discussions like this is the reason I won't lend any of my power equipment to anyone, family included. Wrong mix, wrong oil or straight gassed.... no thanks.

This question comes up a lot over on the Arborist.com forum (chainsaw/woodcutting site).

Lots of horror stories of people ruining their chainsaws using the incorrect TC-W3 2 stroke oil designed for water-cooled 2 stroke engines.

I do use the TC-W3 oil, but only as a diesel fuel lubricant for my F-350 PSD.

Now there is the quote of the day - "I won't lend any of my power equipment to anyone" :D
I look at my power equipment like I look at my wife, you can look at it, but can't touch. I would rather go to someone's house and work for free than lend them my .......lawnmower, chainsaw(s), pressure washer, power tools......etc..

Actually Amsoil has 5 different 2 stroke oil. They are all blended for different applications.
I knew they had a premix and a injector oil guess I will have to pay closer attention to the service bulletins. I'm a commercial acct.

People are just stupid period. I lost count of the number of cars I've hauled away from gas stations in my tow truckin days where some dumbass pumped diesel fuel into a gas engine. HELLO diesel pump handles are either green or yellow, gasoline is always black!

One idiot argued with me over the fuel they pumped, I showed them the diesel labelling on the pump and even the nozzle was a bit bigger then usual for most diesels. The dude couldnt figure out why the nozzle would not fit then somehow jammed it into the tank.

ftg.... ""lots of horrow stories from useing tc-w3 outboard oil"". I used to have a boat and bought a gallon of that oil.. Sold the boat , kept the oil and have been useing it in my chain saws for years. Up untill last year, I heated with wood, used the saws a LOT. and still do, still don't have all the trees cleaned up from tornados 2 years ago. No problems with the saws. When I run out, I will buy chain saw oil but , I can't see a problem with useing the tc-w3.

I've always been the same way. Except more so with the tools and equipment.

I don't have a problem loaning out most of my stuff including tractors and implements. The only catch is they come with an operator (me) and at the end of the day they return home with me.

The color coded nozzles are no longer a accurate guide to the product being dispenced. BP is one example that uses all green covers on the "gas" nozzles.

It has gotten bad in the last 10-20 years. I-pods and smart phones have just made it worse...
